      Oh dear oops
      Scottish ex pats in Europe
If there was an independent Scotland not part of the EU, it would require all the expat Scots living in Spain/Eu to start registration as non EU residents.
Not having an entitlement to vote I think there may be a lot of discontented Scots ex pat, As non EU residents they will lose a lot of benefits

What about ex-pats living in England? Would I suddenly become an immigrant in what has been my own country to date???

Mind you, that might make it easier to get a council house..... :dunno: :snork:

Don't know about the benefits, I'm not aware of having any apart from health care and even that is changing in France and I'll be expected to take out private health insurance if I want full cover. I don't think it will apply to any current ex-pat Scots. We have British passports and I can't imagine anyone will make us surrender them for Scottish ones, given that we had no vote in the referendum. Or will I be a stateless alien?

Actually I'd really like to know what happens to the Scots in England or the rest of Britain for that matter. They have no vote and therefore no control so does that mean that Scotland has in effect cast them out?!

That's a very interesting question Loofah. Don't think fat eck cares about them though.

I think so. The crime: wandering off within the borders of the territory you've lived your life in and paid your taxes to, but just a little bit further south than one man would like. The punishment: Exile for life.

I'm surprised the EU Court of Human Rights or whatever they're called hasn't picked up on that, or do you have to be a terrorist before they get involved I wonder.

I picked the story up in the Free news paper on the Costa Del Sol, never thought to keep the paper, and can not find reference on the papers website RTN

If Scotland gains Independence I think we should ban those living here from voting in our elections.:snork:

To be fair @pete - the choice of candidates pretty much precludes us from voting anyway; its a bit like choosing whether you would rather have your eyes gouged out with a spoon or a fork.

Definitely a spoon. A fork is too pointy.

Is sharpened bamboo canes not an option? That would enable to use one of my favourite sayings. "I'd rather gouge my own eyes with sharpened bamboo sticks than whatever".
