rainbow carrots

last year the grandchildren wanted to grow carrots,so i bought rainbow carrot seeds and this is the last of them pulled this afternoon

the white and green ones can be huge, the yellow and orange average size and the red ones much smaller but they all taste lovely

 

we have bought more again this year, i like to use things like this as a diversity teaching aid with the little ones, it works great too

 

Have you seen/tried the white strawberries?

Stopped growing coloured (well "unusually coloured") fruit as I find that, even if the taste is identical to "Normal" that kids often don't eat them "'coz they are weird"

 

That's exactly the reason why I am going to grow some of the white strawberries out the front. I'm hoping that the local kids will be unaware of what they are, and therefore not pinch them.

 

Did you know that the original wild carrot is purple, and that the familiar orange colour is an accidental by-product of selective breeding?

 

funnily it is the MIL and the husband that has struggled with the coloured ones the kids seem to love the treasure hunt of which one they got i have even seen them swapping or different colours saying they like purple / red ones better
