Which brings me to my moan!

Health Warning:- Don't read this if you are about to have a meal or are of a sensitive nature. :snork:

As we've had so much rain over the past months (fortunately, we haven't been flooded) the water table has been extremely high. This means that our soakaways don't work (we're not on mains drainage) and our sewage backs up! :hate-shocked:

Now we've had some dry days the water table is dropping and our cess pit (tank) is no longer full to the brim. This is normally time for rejoicing but, unfortunately, because everything had backed up the pipes were now blocked. The way to clear this is, usually, to open all the manholes and rod through - a smelly job.

As it had been backed up for sometime the large area beneath each manhole was full of solids and the liquids had now soaked away. This resulted in one hour of me shovelling s...! Using a spade to lift it out and carry it to the cess pit. :yikes:

Ah the joys of septic tanks:biggrin: It was all a big adventure for us doing our own to French water Co. specs.......then eight years on they admit that they hadn't a clue!
We've got the four-yearly inspection this year. Should the spotty schoolboy that usually arrives declare that we need to dig out 28 tonnes of sand and gravel from the filter bed and send it away to be professionally cleaned, there could well be an new and unusual form of activator buried deep in the tank;)
My thoughts are with you, Shiney:eeew:

Reminds me of the only few lines I can remember from a poem about a sewage worker that Mum read to me when I was little,

"Some say he was buried in Gravel, some say he was buried in Grit......."

Energy companies again. I got a bill... a week later a get another bill adding about £200... the week after that I get another one adding about £100! What are they playing at?! I just rang to pay and complain and the amount owing didn't tally with ANY of the bills sent out!! ARGH!
