          I saw a bird yesterday and was wondering what it was. It didn't fly directly overhead so I couldn't see it properly and was about 100ft up.

          It appeared to be about the size of a buzzard and glided along with wings fully outstretched. Although I wasn't sure, it appeared as if the wing tips folded upwards.

          What made me notice it was the sound it was making. It made a call approx. every five seconds and it was a single, drawn out, sound that lasted about two seconds. Not the sharp type of sound a seagull makes that stops abruptly. It was loud and almost a plaintive sort of sound.

                      @Sheal
                      Thanks, but it wasn't a Peregrine. I've just listened to its call and it's not at all similar. Although its call is stretched out it is quite strident and sharp, and repeated fairly quickly. Whereas, the bird I saw had a loud but quite gentle sound and repeated about every five seconds.

                      The Peregrine's wings are a lot more pointed than the bird I saw, whose wings were thicker at the end. Very much like a buzzard, but I wasn't able to tell whether the wing tips were splayed out.

                      Of course, it could have been a buzzard but I've never seen any in this area.
