is it safe to plant my roses?

Hiya all!

hope everyones been well.

ok, i'm gonna give you guys the short version. in my front garden i took down the MASSIVE hedge that went along the front (11 meters with gap for gate and 1.20meter wide) and had a brick flower bed built there. Now i under estimated the job ridiculously. i ordered my roses, it said 10 day delievery so i thought i could get the job done in time. The roses arrived 3 days later and the job finished 5 weeks later.

so now i wanted to plant yesterday but there was frost on the grounded in the morning and i think tomorrow aswell. i wanted to know if i can plant today caz tomor is not 100% sure and if there is it only lasts hours and second because they have been in storage so long i've kept them in walter since sunday and took them out this morning, now for the ground i have john inn no3 which i will put over current soil before planting but should i get some well rotted manure too and some bark to cover the ground with after?

i think one of my rose is dead or near death but i dont want to toss it, i wanna give it a chance. how would i know for sure its dead?

I Iive in north chingford towards sewardstone Essex and there aren't any roses in anyone's front garden except mine which I find very strange.

I don't have blood/bone meal but I have "J. Arthur Bower's rose food with extra magnesium" would that do?

right, the rose food finished half way and i just put a layer of manure this morning as it hadn't arrived till late yesterday. I'm sooo nervous as these are the first real things i've ever planted and if they die now, boy, i think i'll divorce gardening.

I think if all 10 of them survive, come june my garden will be the envy of the street.

so what should i do now? when should i expect to see life?

 

What varieties did you get?

Roses are tough as old boots in my experience, so you have chosen well for your first plants.

If you could post pics of the one you think may be dying, then people will be able to offer advice

Make sure you keep them watered for the first year until their roots are well established (which should happen quite quickly) but don't drown them.

I bet once your neighbours see your roses in bloom, they'll all want one.

owl my friend, after taking a look this morning I'm very hopeful


I've planted them along the front between the bricks, I'm now wondering to plant them along the path on either side or would that be too many roses for anyone's liking? I'm lost as to what to plant there. I originally wanted it to be a flower bed but I haven't a clue about that.

 

I just read what I wrote lol I ment planting more roses along the sides of the path.
I was thinking about it during the journey to my mum's and I think it could work as long as I have some spring blooming plants under. Need to think about good edging now and then research plants

 

Don't worry they will grow. Spot on advice given as usual. Did u leave the knobbly bit on the stem just sitting on the soil level or just under like this

 

Rule 1 you can never have too many roses! Lol
You could have them either side of path and a bed each side in the grass . I have a tiny back and have 30 roses so far. Many on here have many more. Just pick ones for path that have a similar width and height and plant them far enough away that their not snagging legs as u walk by )
