I've done a quick google but not sure what the chemicals are.
Might work on red spider if it kills mites.

      Not sure about slugs though.

I use it in the chicken coops,i make a paste and paint the walls, also sprinkle in bedding.
I did sprinkle some on slugs a month back, they was still crawling off so not sure how long it takes to kill them.
Not sure if red spider mite is the same as red mite?? but it doesnt kill red mite pete which are a pain to shift from a coop:gaah:

Diatomaceous earth is made of the remains of diatoms and is mainly silica. The finely divided particles abrade the waxy cuticle of insects and mites causing them to dehydrate leading to death. I seem to remember seeing somewhere that it also abrades the joints causing them to seize up.
        So unlikely to kill slugs.

And no, it doesn't work against red mite in chicken coops. FicamW does!

It is also supposed to be good for you if you eat it!!! I had a very elderly cat some years ago who was prone to upset tummies, some diatomaceous earth sprinkled on his food worked miracles!!! :)

It's also used in wine finings to clear wine.

Can't remember offhand how much the FicanW was, @joolz68, but it's not cheap except in the sense that a little goes a very long way and it is extremely effective. Then again, DE costs the earth to obtain here in France and I didn't feel it was worth it. Didn't like the thought of me, the chooks or anyone else breathing in the dust!
