Just wondering. There's a few people approaching me throughout the area expressing an interest in a local club being set up.
It's odd for three reasons - they seem to think I'm the font of all knowledge in the area (I'm not), each person doesn't know the others and yet this has all happened recently and finally - I can't stand cricket!

Curious as to the process though as I'm happy to set it all up

    Hi Loofah

I am Secretary for a Club (not cricket) , what may be a good idea is contact one that is already setup and have a chat with them what is evolved, it may have a Governing body that may point you in the right direction of what you need to do , as it can be a real eye opener to start off with as , getting a Committee together to share out the responsibilities ( some do lots and some do nothing !!!! ) , you may need insurance, bank account, keeping records of ££ spent . Its a minefield of red tape, and at times a total headache.

And the biggest thing is funding , is it going to cost and how do you get the money to run it , nothing is cheap with any sport.

I have no idea, but I'm going to watch this thread with interest, because I've always wanted to organise something like this (but not cricket) but have no idea how to go about it.

      Committees I'm overly familiar with!
Have organised village shows, village meetings, runs ashore and various evolutions but a new sports club is new ground...
Good point on the governing body, I'm sure there will be more to it than eating cucumber sarnies. I'm seeing if we get enough people interested before doing too much else as funding can always be organised and raised (done that too). Looking like I'll definitely want a secretary for all the paper shuffling. Might drop a line to the England and Wales Cricket Board next "Dear Sirs, Please send one set of balls, bats and stumps asap, cheers!"

Well the project is progressing slowly, which is good. People are asking for updates and I've made a free wordpress site for the project so no expenditure outside of time.
I've located the governing body (the ECB) and the local body for Surrey (the SCB) and sent of enquiries there, only to find that the people are off at meetings or jollies watching matches all week!

Now just looking through the raft of pages for Sport England...

I used to love playing cricket, it was easy because I'd play for our works team so it was all organised by our social club, just had to turn up. Cricket is such a good social event, we had wives and kids come along for sandwiches and drinks during and after, and to help do the scoring.

These days I run a footie 5-a-side team, it's great fun but lots of work and that's with a much smaller team. I have over 20 people in the pool and organizing them takes a lot of time.

I'd say if you don't like cricket then don't even bother, you have to enjoy the sport to take part, unless you just fancy the social side of course.

        I do like a good social :)

I'm looking for people to be involved at the moment - no intention of attempting this alone! You never know John, I might even start to like the game...

Yes I'm certain you will, start with scoring and umpiring and you'll soon be the next Alex Hale :)
