What does everyone do with their old pots?

My garden seems to be overflowing with garden pots and I'm keen to get rid of them. I could just sling them in the bin like many others do but I'm keen for them to be reused. What does everyone else do with theirs?

Can anyone suggest good places to take them to to be reused or recycled into something else

 

If there is an allotment nearby you could always take them there and ask if anyone needs them or put a free ad in your local Paper shop if you have one....

I keep all the clay ones but have hundreds of plastic ones and at least half need to go. The most useful sizes are probably quite small, 10cm ish and fairly big - bucket sized. I've just put them on Freecycle and 2 people have expressed an interest so far.

 

I keep finding boxes, carrier/bin bags of them on my doorstep, for some reason or other people in our village think we'll be grateful for anything, as long as it's free.

 

Don't put them in the plastic waste bin ! I did and got a warning note on my bin , apparently hard plastic is not wanted. Still not a clue what hard plastic is ?
As above some GC's have collection bins for them .

 

I've just put them up on freecycle. If no one takes then then I will send up to you if you like?

 

We can put them in the recycle bag with the plastic milk bottles and tubs

 

I seem to put them in a pile in a corner of the allotment.

Leave them for about 5 yrs or so, until brittle, then collect up the pieces and put them in the bin.

 

Friends have been harangued at a local garden centre for taking pots (of a size required) from their 'recycling' bin, and threatened by the local council for putting unwanted sized pots in their recycling.

 

Have you seen the price of new plastic pot in the shops etc over the top just for the normal ones , I needed some and when I went to my mums two weeks ago loaded up the car at the Garden center and they had all the old pots (not that old the big green ones) from David Austin roses and a big sign "take as many as you want" well I did

my mum said "aka Spruce gone over the top again have we "
