Sorry you've been hurt silu, stick to your guns and get some justice.

Sadly I got caught out by this a few years ago, a local company produces 'organic' compost which turned out to be anything but, it was contaminated with a very persistent weedkiller and it wiped out my veg plot that season. I wasn't the only one, it affected gardeners across the country. So I'd ignore the word 'organic' on anything these days, it's a meaningless marketing phrase.

In my case the soil association didn't want to get involved, even though it was a national problem. I tried enlisting the Green Party but they were worse than useless, I'm still getting spam email from them but they didn't lift a finger to help. All the people who promote 'green' issues didn't want to get involved as they are afraid of tackling the chemical companies. Even Trading standards were totally useless although they must have had several hundreds of complaints, they can't deal with national issues and couldn't understand what the problem was. The only help we got was from UKIP strangely enough, Nigel Farage was like a bull in a china shop when he heard about the situation and quickly forced through a ban on that new weedkiller (for a year or two until proper husbandry procedures were put in place to control it).

Hi silu, I'll wait to see what happens :blue thumb:. As with most large organisations, they probably went to a known supplier and assumed, wrongly, that they were getting what they were contracted to get .

Another message from Melanie at their customer services came in last night.

"Thank you once again for contacting Customer Services

I did read the comments and can see that the customer contacted us however, I cannot search for that complaint from the forum username which is the only information you had provided.

If the customer would like to contact us so that we can identify their complaint then of course we will do that and will look into a resolution."

      Their contact number is 0800 042 0800
      Complaint Ref: 187142

I have saved that customer service number, always useful to save freephone numbers.

you give it to them @silu, hope they will realise not to mess and injure G.C. members, this is a very popular forum, and if a product is recommended on this site it has good implications, and the opposite applies.

If you are not having any luck with FB,try Twitter also, and add that Aldi doesn't seem to want to rectify or acknowledge the situation.

The more bad press you give them publicly, the more likely you'll get the result you want.

I had issues recently with Vodafone.... Persistence paid off for me :)

Well the finger shot is my 1st selfy! The article which did the damage is 2nd from the right in the photo of the various bits and pieces I found in literally a couple of handfuls. I will try and upload them onto Aldi's facebook page but I don't "do" facebook so not quite sure how to. It's after 10 am and no contact from Aldi yet. Will give it till after lunch and then return to the attack.

Was busy yesterday afternoon so didn't have time to contact Aldi. They funnily enough didn't contact me despite being informed on 2 occasions that they would. I will use your references Shiney:ThankYou: and see what if anything comes of that!

Quick update. Have spoken with Aldi customer services who eventually found your logged complaint Shiney! Evidently the person I contacted originally with my complaint took my tel number down wrong, therefore couldn't contact me and have sent me a letter so at least there is going to be some response. They have my name and address, my phone number is "in the book" so wouldn't have been difficult to get the right number! My big gripe is not so much I got a cut finger, more what on earth is in Aldi organic compost. Obviously the quality control is non existent and from what it looks like it appears pretty well identical to ghastly stuff I can get for free from the local recycling plant. You take a bag/s of garden waste there and can get recycled bag/s back...no more think of putting that on my soil far less grow crops in it than fly to the moon! I've seen the likes of Japanese Knotweed, Ragwort piled up ready to be shredded...yuk. This episode has just convinced me that the hard work of shredding the mountains of my garden waste and collecting vast quantities of leaves to make my own compost/leaf mould is worth the effort, even if it can be a bit weedy sometimes.

Don't suppose you found parts of an airplane in that compost did you?

I'd be appalled if CS don;t raise the alarm over this - sliced open fingers in compost is NOT acceptable and one of the pieces in the pics actually looks like a knife blade or a can opener!!

Another quick update. Had letter from Aldi in response to my original telephoned complaint. Sent me £10 gift voucher and when/if I go back to the store I will be refunded the cost of the 3 bags of compost and be given 1 for free! That will be a no to the offer of a free bag of "rubbish". Reference the "2nd" complaint originally raised by Shiney, I have managed to get the customer services to understand getting a cut finger is bad enough but it's more the nature of what is actually in their compost and it's origin that is my main gripe. They have spoken to me twice today and are waiting to hear back from whoever supplies them with the product as to how I could have ended up with the offending articles in so small an amount of compost. They have assured me that there haven't been any other complaints?! yet someone on the Aldi Facebook page responded to my post stating they too had had a similar occurrence. No doubt it's more the case that people can't be bothered to complain and as the item is not an expensive 1 they let it slide. I'm not looking for compensation just don't think that they or any other companies should be selling recycled god knows what under the name of organic compost.

I don't mean to wind you up, but in the situation you've described, I'd be outraged at the insult of being offered a gift voucher. What this says is "here is a customer who might stop spending money with us, so let's offer her a token amount of money to get her to continue spending money with us".

I'm not sure what I'd want in your situation, but the very least would be the absolute assurance that they're going to stop selling this rubbish.

Many of us let our young kids get involved in gardening. I'd probably bust a blood vessel (no pun intended) if my son was setting up to sow a nasturtium or pea seed and his hands emerged covered in blood.

I'm keeping my "powder dry" Clueless. I have made absolutely no comment to those I'm speaking to in CS regarding having received the letter and joyous! gift token. I too would think it a victory if I got them to stop selling this trash to the unsuspecting who unless they got injured as I did buy it, would think it's ok. Will wait and see what next week brings.
