I love growing things from seed and always try to source seeds for unusual and rare trees and shrubs, I currently have 3 shrubs in my garden that I grew from seed at the same time, 2004, I have nurtured them for 10 years, patiently waiting for the first time they will flower and today I inspected the new leaf buds and found on some shoots what look like emerging flower buds on all 3!!

The shrubs are; Pterostyrax hispida, Cladrastis sinensis and Xanthoceras sorbifolium, now I'm hoping they are defintely flower buds (I'm 99% certain they are) and they develop without a hitch, I can't wait :dancy:

      :wow:

      Well done, Bilbo!!!!

I always think of you as our resident "experimentalist", but, a 10 year wait (!!!?) puts you "up there" in my estimation of a "gardener".

May your patience and perseverance reward you abundantly: you deserve it! :dbgrtmb:

Thanks guys, of the 3 two are absolute definites, just the Cladrastis that are a bit small to be absolutely sure but they do look different to the normal new growth :)

Its amazing the feeling of satisfaction you can get from successfully growing something from seed  :spinning:

                          Got to agree.
The longest that I've waited for a bloom was seven years on my Strelitzia. I've a feeling that I may be waiting longer for my Koelreuteria to bloom though.

                                Update....

Well the Pterostyrax is covered in flower buds which should open very soon, however the news is not so good with the Xanthoceras, that was nicely developing a flower spike but a recent wet/cool spell of weather made it wither away and fall off before opening, so frustrating, but hopefully next year it will attempt to flower again.

The Cladrastis didn't develop flower buds in the end but it is putting on an amazing amount of new growth, its looking amazing, I'll try and get some photos on soon :)

So not as good as hoped but I'm still chuffed to bits with them :)
