      The rain stopped for a while so I emptied the compost bin - never seen so many worms in my life! [​IMG] Some of it was used to fill the rather large hole where Timmy has tried to dig an escape tunnel and the rest I spread across the border. I've now moved the bottom of a concrete bird bath over that bit which should hopefully deter him.

      I also moved a Malus Royalty over a couple of feet to where the compost bin was. I only planted it last Sept/Oct and the roots hadn't started spreading yet so hopefully it'll be okay.

      Then it started raining again. Not that I would ordinarily let a bit of rain deter me, but I was looking for an excuse to come in and rest.

        Well, The Evictions have began!

        I pressure washed the greenhouse inside and out, cleaned all the glass with my new toys see this thread, pressure washed off my wooden shelving to make sure that there was no mould or fungus to cause any problems (after all, I have quite a large greenhouse, so its not as though there isn't mush-room in it; besides, I am the only fun-guy in this house :snork:), and they were reinstated into the greenhouse.

        Then, the evictions began - basically, the more established stuff that should hopefully cope with cool nights. Tomatoes etc will follow in a week or so. Doesn't a greenhouse look so much better when it has residents though?

            Mine too ... I have evicted a small proportion of the Euonymous cuttings from @shiney 's hedge clippings last year - there's probably 70-100 there:

            still quite a few left in the Propagation House though ... bit hard to see in this photo, plenty on the right but also loads lurking in the middle of the left bench, behind the young Lily plants

                  Well, after the Lord mayors ( Kristens ) show, I have started to sow seeds in the windowsill propagator today. Too windy to work outside so I covered the dining room table with a sheet of plastic and worked there.

                          I've spoken to Head Gardener and she says that the euonymous will need a trim and you can prune it when you come along - as they're too soft at this time of year. That way you can stop when you've got enough and they will all be fresh cuttings. Normally she would cut it now and dump the prunings, but there's no problem in leaving it till you come as it looks good anyway.

                          She's not yet sure about the box. It depends on how well they grow, they're only small, and she uses them for flower arranging (she gave a very successful talk on that last week :blue thumb:). She says that there may be some you can have but it's just wait and see.

                          Re the common arums:- most of them had been dug up and dumped before you asked about them but we have a big clump (about 3ft diameter) of them by the compost heaps. You're welcome to attempt to dig them out and have the lot when you come along but they put down deep roots (I was just going to chop them down). If you want to do that then you may want to bring boots but you can use my spades and forks - or even my pickaxe. :heehee:

                              Last year it was at East Ruston, so a lot later than the May Open Day, which probably makes a difference?

                              Thanks! Just as well as I bust the pickaxe handle trying to get some Bamboo out of someone else's garden!! Which reminds me ... I must get a nice new Ash handle. And another for the spade I bust at the same time. And the Fork one too!!! It was a "good" day for finding which tools had been left out, rotting, all winter :)
