2014 Tomato Growing

    @Penny in Ontario ...My Dad always grew Shirleys in the GH...from what i remember they are medium sized fruits and a good cropper and they never seemed to suffer with any problems...tolerated cold spells well and tasted good too...:thumbsup:

      Hi Penny
      Shirley is my banker tomato I grow it every year nice size around 140 to 180 grams per fruit with a good flavour. Nice short distance between trusses
      I replied to Pixie on page 4 of this thread and posted a picture of my small greenhouse ( my avatar) the tomato you can see in the foreground on the right side is Shirley.

              I can't wait to taste it:hapydancsmil:...it's been mostly a case of seeing if I could actually grow an early Tomato and it's been a real treat keeping an eye on them and willing them on...:thumbsup::phew:

                  They're Red Cherry Spruce...i'm sure i've seen bigger cherries though:rolleyespink:....still they didn't cost me anything as they were free from my Gardening magazine....shame they didn't have any offers on for electrickery:heehee:

                          I sowed 11 varieties of Tomatoes on 2 April in a windowsill propagator. Out of the 11 , 9 have germinated so far - just Moneymaker and Clive Bevan to show,

                            Went away for a couple days, lost some seedlings :( funeral and last post tomorrow. No flowers by request of family.
