A RARE OCCASION

As some know I've bought a girt great Telescope recently and while waiting for the Skies to clear so I can see some Stars and the Moon I've been slowly checking the bits and pieces, calibrating it and so on. Last night I discovered that there were four small screws missing from the Focusing mount where the eyepiece is installed.....which means it could untwist and fall off, not a good thing as they are expensive to replace. So I managed to find one screw in a box that came with the Telescope but no others. I spent today going from DIY Superstore to another Store without any success in finding the particular size [M3] of screw In the last Store, after failing to find the right screw again, I asked one of the Assistants for help and she suggested the Electrical Department and took me there.................no success. But there was another customer there who was looking for some electrical wire and he heard us talking and asked to see the screw. He looked at it and said "Well, I've got loads of those in my garage". Now when someone says that to you you mentally think "Oh, thanks a lot, Pal, for telling me" because it's like someone "helpfully" telling you "I knew that was going to happen" after it just has!!! But to my surprise he looked at me and said "If you want to follow me home you can have some" So he allowed me to follow him home, and he rummaged in his vastly stocked garage and found me some M3 screws.......exactly what I wanted!! He wouldn't accept any payment for them and told me that if I needed anything else to drop in anytime. Now that's what you call a Gentleman. His wife was really nice, a gardener [so I gave her a GC card!!], and also knew her way around the Stars in the skies. So in repayment I'll take some plants around for their garden for an act to a Stranger from a Stranger..... Needless to say, the screws are firmly in place in the focusing mount!!

 

Luckily for me, where I live is littered with places I know I can go to get real odd ball stuff, your M3 screws for example, I would have gone to a place 5 minutes away called South Essex Fasteners .... Any Screw, bolt, nut, washer you can think of, they hold ... Including old thread sizes etc.

How nice of him to offer you to follow him home though, and then to dig round to get what you wanted

Well, mine's black, Harry, but when I'm lugging it around it feels as big at that!!!
