Are you attracted by a particular colour?

Longk what is that turquoise one - a stunning colour !
I like pastel colours , dusty blues etc , and full on hot red flowers .

 

White too.....I forgot to mention white and blue together! Stunning.

 

Not really got a favourite as such, but Yellows, Reds and Burgundy, usually float my boat.

I'm with the purple brigade. However, I just love oranges and pinks together and have one corner planted with shrubs in those shades.

Like Clueless I like veined flowers but without too much contrast, for example a pink flower with orange veining or a blue flower with purple veining. A purple flower with white veining or a yellow flower with red veining would be a no-no. I also love pink and orange together, they intensify each other.

I think I respond as much to the leaf shape and overall texture as to the colour. The shape of the flower and the quality of the colour makes a lot of difference too. For example, the hard purple of a campanula is very different from the subtle, textured purple of a wisteria flower.

 

I favour the purples, blues, dusky pinks and white.

 

We have graduated to having beds for specific colours / themes. We are trying to make a Hot border, a-la Hidcote, but finding it blinking difficult to get shades of Reds that work togethe - particularly as we have to buy, and then grow, everything to discover that it is Orange and not Red as the salesman said :(

We also have a White and Blue bed. I would consider White or White & Silver for the next bit we are trying to get "under cultivation" ... but I think its just going to be "random climbers".

For me the colour (much as I dislike pink) is less important than the shape of the blooms. Personally I dislike double flowers almost as much as I loath "daisy-like" blooms. Yet I can spend ages looking at (for example) the tiny flowers of Plectranthus argentatus.

 

I think the orange would brighten up the red a bit!

I do plant all sorts of colors, but also keep in mind how each color plays off the color next to it.
BUT ----- I do enjoy planting a beautiful area of white flowers, so that the moon beams can reflect off of them as your walking a path. In fact there is a tree I have been wanting for years, that has flowers that play with the moon beams at night. Will find a place for the tree soon.
