    Potted up a couple of trays of seedlings. Things got moved around a lot in the greenhouse just before I went away on hols to make sure everything got a good share of the capillary matting and the labels went a bit awry. I think one of these were Cleome but it will be fun finding out. Haven't a clue what the other tray is. Strong and healthy anyway, whatever they are. Really must be more organised with labelling and record keeping.

    Bought a couple of water butts, one to attach to the green house and one for the bottom of the garden where the hose doesn't reach.

    Sure I did a lot more than that but apart from watering the garden can't think what, but it took all day anyway.

      Only got one job done today, changed the soil in the greenhouse. It took all day though, mainly because;

      a. I discovered that the new wheelbarrow my daughter bought me for my birthday last summer is too wide to get through the greenhouse door. :doh:Which meant getting the old soil out of the greenhouse was still reasonably easy, but getting the replacement soil in took much longer than it used to.

      b. I kept getting interrupted by friendly neighbours chatting over the garden fence/hedge. Us gardeners are, of course, a sociable bunch, but there are days when you just don't seem to get much done as a result. :noidea:

      Still, it's done now. I must have shifted the best part of a ton of soil today. :phew:
      I think there's a beer in the fridge with my name on it. :ccheers:

        Been holed up in the GH for best part of the day,sowing, pricking out and potting on ...tomorrow I'm on day release so it's back in the garden,hoping for some sunshine to potter in:thumbsup:

          Not much today, put up some 6x4 footy nets for little Mowgley.
          Widened the border I did the other day ready for my new plants being delivered soon hopefully.
          Cleaned the pond and changed the uv bulb and brought 2 new small koi

            Today, so far, I have cut and edged the back grass, weeded and raked then topped up the gravel path in front of the shed. Tided around the Cherry Tree and added more bark mulch.

            Complete spring clean of the shed, weeded the the block paving at the bottom end of the garden.

            Trip to the tip with some non-recyclables.

            Just watching the Liverpool game then will be planting up a couple I have, pricking out / potting up some seedlings. Sowing some more seeds as a reward for the mornings hard work :snork:

              Not much today but seeing as the sun has come out, I thinned out some seedlings and did a bit of watering.

                Well, I got absolutely nothing that I planned to do done, but I did do this instead:

                These started out as 7 barrels that once contained bus shampoo, cut in half, pressure washed within an inch of their lives, holes drilled in the bottoms for drainage, then holes drilled in the sides to fit rope handles.

                The rope handles were made from rope that a friend gave me that was left over from a BT engineers work, cut into equal lengths, and the ends of those lengths melted to stop them unravelling; a knot at each end once through the holes holds them nicely in place.

                Once all holes were cut, I sanded the surrounds of them, as well as the top edge giving it a bit of a chamfer to prevent cut hands.

                The far right half barrel has additional holes in the sides as it is going to be for the strawberries which are coming out of the growbag that is sitting next to it. Essentially, I have gotten rid of the growbags, and for the same space I now have these which are deeper (so better for leeks etc) sturdier, cleaner, and best of all the dog can't get up on top of them in the way he could with the bags.

                I reckon, all in, including the price of water and the electricity for the tools, the whole lot has cost me less than a fiver. :dbgrtmb:

                EDIT - the back row are sat up on long brick things, as I thought it would make it easier to reach stuff that way.

                      Done no work in the garden today only sat with relatives (who are staying with me) drinking and chatting. They went off visiting so decided to spend my time in the GC garden until they come back and want feeding again!

                        We've got over 150 of them in our garage, so he'd be kept busy :snork:

                        I'm really chuffed with them @Jenny namaste - sturdy enough to hold the required compost, yet easy enough to drag about if required. The main aim was to get more planting depth than the bags, and although the bags were OK, they tended not to drain fantastically well, I think because they were sat huddled on top of concrete.

                        The planting scheme is planned as follows:

                        BACK ROW (from left)
                        Brussels Sprouts x 2 barrels, Kale x 2 Barrels, Carrots x 1 barrels, Leeks x 2 barrel

                        FRONT ROW (from left)
                        Lettuce x 2 barrels, Radishes x 2 barrels, Spring onions x 1 barrel, Carrots x 1 barrel (different variety to back row) and strawberries x 1 barrel
