I didn't soak mine. They are just coming up now which is less than a week. I only want a couple of plants too so I sowed six seeds and three are up already....I sowed the few extras in case of casualties. If there are no casualties and I end up with extra plants, I'll give these to my dad to try!

Definitely the thing to be growing this year - my seeds germinated in less than a week & are now having a little holiday under the growlight until I have space to put them out.

Carl , I got about 60% germination . No need to soak the seeds just sow and cover with a thin layer of compost . Keep in a warm room out of direct sunlight if possible.

Anyone growing/grown these? I'd never heard of them til yesterday, but a friend drew my attention to them and they sound great.

Apparently they are a vigorous climber, drought hardy, fine in UK climate outdoors, and you can lift the roots and save them over winter for the next year. They produce a fruit that looks like a tiny water melon, and tastes like a cross between a cucumber and a melon, with a hint of citrus.

              Here's an article about them.

I have heard about them from somewhere..........but never saw seeds. I remember them being perennial and being a very spare, weedy, vine which can be grown amongst other stuff. I think they would be great fun to pickle.
