I do three-to-a-9cm-pot Loli. Plant out as-is and then pull 2 for thinnings leaving the main one to grow on. Courtesy of Mr M. Don a few years back :)

Over the past couple of weeks I've planted shallots, potatoes (Charlotte, Maris Piper and King Edwards) and spring onion and carrots seeds into the veggie patch. Cucumber and Sweet Corn are sown in pots in the conservatory. Tomato plants are in the greenhouse with a few more from seed in trays in there as well. Pineberry is starting to flower in a pot with some strawberries on the decking

Why's that? We like Carrots in containers - I use up last-season-MPC mixed 50:50 with sharp sand, and being able to bring a container "close to Kitchen door" is, apparently, regarded as A Good Think by Chef :)

I regliiously rogue-out volunteer potatoes. Mostly because I want my crop rotation to be a proper break between crops, but also 'coz they are a proper thug when they grow and, like you say, interfere with follow-on crop. If they come up in-crop I just take their heads off, they give up after a few weeks, before the crop is in I dig 'em up properly.

I start my Parsnips in newspaper-tubes, so the Spuds [and all other weeds] have plenty of Spring to encourage them to make an appearance before planting-time. Heavy soil here, so I don't direct-sow anything as it is at least mid-April before I could get onto the soil ... but even if it wasn't I think raise-and-plant is better than sow-direct because the later is always a race between Seed and Weed, and the Weed (by design :( ) is adept at winning that race, sadly.

You now have the whole summer to admire them from your deckchair without having to weed them - so its invest-some-to-make-some :)

I just don't seem to have much success with container grown veg,it's probably a watering issue:doh:also I prefer to direct sow the likes of Parsnips and Beetroot as that's where I seem to get better results too or I have done in the past (now I've put the mockers on them:doh:)

Regarding these rouge potatoes ,I've surely got them this time:fingers crossed: I wouldn't mind but when I dug them out they were only the size of a pea so I can maybe be forgiven for missing them but they're annoying little:mute:. IF they decide to show themselves again I'll do what you do and chop their heads off:thumbsup:
