    Hello,
    When is the best time to prune a winter honeysuckle which has now finished flowering

    I also have a query ,can you layer it so that it will form a new plant.I am thinking of doing this in some large plant pot and them if they root ,cut from the mother plant and plant out later.

    Hi fileyboy, the answer is yes you can propagate Winter Honeysuckle by layering and also by semi-ripe cuttings in Summer and hardwood cuttings in Autumn.:coffee::snork:



    Hi Sylvia, you can prune the plant in late Spring after it has flowered as the flowers are produced on 2nd year wood.:hapydancsmil::snork:

      I didn't even know there was a winter honeysuckle. I'll have to look out for that one.

          I grow Winter Beauty it is quite vigorous, so it gets pruned quite harshly about this time of year, in my garden. It then shoots strongly from the base with bright green, slightly hairy leaves.
          I generally have a few flowers for Christmas outside and cut some for indoors when the flowers come out along the stem in the warmth. The flowers are sweetly scented.
          I find that it layers very easily even accidentally at times.
