This morning I planted three Fuschia's and a Cistus, prepared the planters/pots that are to be filled and then had a big change round in the greenhouse after ousting a number of plants for hardening off. It's to early, I know it's to early, but the plants were galloping inside, they'll probably be in the beds at the end of the week, a chance I have to take.

Yesterday I finished digging out the chicken run, with the help of my 4 year old son, who in the end became chief worm re-homer. He removed them all to the veg beds. Today I am ripping the front garden out. About 8 years ago I put weed fabric down and covered with gravel. I have a few shrubs in, but it looks a mess, so I am ripping it all out to start again. I will dig a load of hose muck and compost as there has been nothing put in for years. Not sure how much I will be able to do though as I am aching like mad this morning after narrowing all the earth 60 odd meters to the skip. I bought some perennials last week to go in, then fill the gaps with annuals.

        Rusty.

Visited Winkworth Arboretum (OK, so strictly speaking not my garden but...), got back and moved a shrub from a small border next to the house that gets dry as a bone to the new border by the garage, removed cement from back of old sandstone pieces and used them to 'biggerise' the edging of the new pond. Added some bricks to pond so wildlife can get out, went next door for a bucket of pond water and got disappointed when they were out lol

Did a few other bits and pieces but found, for once, the timing of everything yesterday was excellent as a minute or so after finishing the heavens opened to water everything down for me! Now that hardly ever happens:)

I tried, I really did - but ended up lying in bed watching the snooker between Ding Junhui and Michael Wasley last night. What a cracker of a match! In fact, so far there has been some really good snooker in this tournament.

Not too bad thanks :), the hard bit was getting moving this morning - once I was up and about, its not been as bad as I was expecting to be honest.

I've met him a couple of times and he's actually a very funny down to earth guy who can really take the mickey out of himself.

Today I was mostly scrubbing down the garden tables and chairs. The tables had been used as temporary benches in the greenhouse until I got my proper shelving and were extremely manky.

Also tried sorting out the seedlings into planting groups. I have a tray of mixed potted up seedlings which were odds and sods/late germinators from various seed trays and I have no clue what some of them are so that should be fun going through the seedsite trying to ID them.

Reshaped the bed to fit the new beast chamaerops cerifera in!
Dug over the palm bed ready for planting soon.
Hardcore doing it in the pouring rain

After clearing a lot of the rockery, planted some new rockery plants. These will give more colour as the old ones were all greens...

I continued with lawn edging - only another 200ft to go :dancy: and worked in the veg patch.

I spent a lot of the day getting the bean areas ready and have put up enough canes for 200 plants - still more to go. It seems an easy job at first but pushing so many canes deep into the ground is pretty tough on the back and stomach muscles. At least I know I have some! :heehee:

Just tying them all in and weaving the ShineyFrame took two hours :hate-shocked:. Note to self: next year, cut strings ready for canes whilst watching TV.

I had to dig out a lot of forget-me-nots, and weeds, from the veg patch to get more canes in. This year we're also going to grow French beans (haven't grown them for years) and have some good ones from Steve R and are trialling a new variety for Gardening Which? The ones from Which? climb up to 6ft high.

I shan't get much done today as we have lots of people here but shall try and get in a bit more clearing of the veg patch for more runner beans.

Watering the stuff in the greenhouse, fed the brugmansia as it was looking a tad unhappy (it was fine on Thursday, so I assume that its a food thing), and sprinkled slug pellets liberally around the greenhouse as the little bar-stewards have been having a field day!

Will need to sow LOADS tomorrow, as time is moving on (and the slugs/snails have seen off all of marigold seedlings!)

Potted on tomatoes, Antirrhinum, Knautia and more tomatoes. Moved more plants out of the greenhouse to harden off and washed pots and trays. Watered all this evening and refilled the bird bath.....again!
