I disagree with this bit. Keeping the GC Photo Competitions in the more prominent position they're in now will encourage more members to take part.

@Fern4 Good point, I didn't think it would make much difference moving it down a few lines down, but if this was done

That would free up a whole 'board' that could be devoted to GC Competitions, photo/pumpkin/whatever, making them all more prominent than before.

P.S. I don't bother with the GC photo competitions any more as I got fed up with continual changing of closing for entries dates (both extending and early closing) and changing (extending) of closing for voting dates as I consider that rules for a competition shouldn't be changed whilst in progress. Rules are rules AFAIK.

Having all of the competitions together and in a more prominent place is a good idea....I didn't think of that! :dbgrtmb:

And perhaps with sticky links in Photo Discussion for Photo Comps, and in other gardening boards for the likes of Pumpkins, Onions, Tomatoes, etc.

EDIT: Might get more Google hits for 'Pumkin competition' etc.

Sorry, I don't like the new layout, I think it's messy and more inclined to put new members off. Navigating the way to forums needs to be thought about to much and the smaller print in various areas is not good.

Is it worth keeping the 'Gardening News RSS Feeds' forum? It doesn't seem to attract many members.

Thanks for all the feedback/suggestions, i am just waiting on the final layout list from webmaster before i proceed.

as for the layout, there will be a new default skin coming (the old/current one will remain as an option for those that prefer it)

The new skin uses more modern design than our current one (an entirely different layout to anything we had before), its been tested about about 50 sites i have been involved with, and its always proved very popular with guests/new members.

              More news to come shortly.

The random photos take up too much space and are extremely messy with the details almost totally obscuring the photo One line of easily seen photos should be enough.

I am confused since I started a random photos thread. (It depicted thought provoking quotes, aesthetic scenes e.g. of places and funny quotes). Are you referring to my one or one that seems to have been around for a few years (that I have just discovered)?

You will both no doubt be pleased to see that my thread has been deleted. I wasn't even notified and only discovered it by typing random photos in the search window which led me here.

I think that post was referring to the way the GC Home Page continuously displays a re-hash of old photos that Google then picks up as new content.
