I only went there as I had just put Inhouse Adviser's aged aunt on the coach at Bournemouth for Birkenhead, perhaps the Swallows followed her.
We will probably have to return the visit later in the year, can I stalk you and see what you see (owls)????

Would love to you show the owls, they have moved on now, so I'll let you know when they come back!

Great pictures Strongy! I always thought Stonechats were bigger than they are until I saw them for real several years ago. They tend to populate the south of the island. :)

Males and females are often seen together and the male has a white collar they used to be nicknamed 'the vicar and his wife'.

first pair of house Martins are back arrived this afternoon and have taken up residence in the old nest high in the corner of the eaves on the side of the house, its only one off 5 that dont fall down in the summer, its a bit risky 50/50 with the other houses for some reason they tend to drop off, normally full of chicks and all the neighbours feel awful.
I know you can get ready made house martins nests to attach to the eaves.

The only pair at the moment so more should arrive over the next couple of days.

I thought at one point they will never get here, they have been feeding over the river.
            Just the Swifts next....

Saw a wasp today, which seems early to me.

I suspect this is not good news.

I reckon you're right, Scrungee.:dunno: The mild Winter must mean that a lot of pests etc must have survived in greater numbers than normal. Having said that I don't class the Wasp as a pest. It sometimes finds it's way into the Kitchen but is easy to trap in a glass and taken outside. but it eats some pests and also pollinates plants so I don't bother them and they don't bother me.:heehee:

                        Did you actually mean that?

In a bad wasp year they're boring holes in fruit and fighting me for possession of it, especially when crushing/pressing apples, or making a nest in my sheds and fighting me for possession of/access to it, or making their nests in the ground amongst my crops and attacking me when attempting to harvest them.

If you were talking about bees I would have said you'd been a Honey Guide Badger in a previous incarnation.

I reckon all insects have their good sides and bad sides, Spruce, but I still view Wasps as beneficial in the main scheme of things. I do get puzzled though when I see people "flapping" at Wasps when they get too near as that seems like a guarantee to get stung!!:dunno::hate-shocked::yikes::snork:

the times they have attacked my hives and the bees cant cope most of the time they do as the wasps are sneaky they buzz the end of the entrance all the bees rush down to attack them and the wasp fly into the other end with no guards, I put a piece of glass at the front of the hive the bees quickly know the new when in but the wasps totally struggle and bounce of the glass I also reduce the entrance to about 1 inch .

As you know Ar mani I like nature
