By mistake I have watered half of my lawn with glyphosate this afternoon (thought I had grabbed a bottle of Verdone). Desperate measures I have watered throroughly but think it is a lost cause and am anticipating misery and ugliness for the next while ... I may retire from gardening or at least sit on the stupid step with a big pointy hat on. Though trivial in the scheme of life I do feel utterly dejected and hate the thought of even going out into the garden.
    Woe and thrice woe.

    Not so GG.

Sorry to hear that, but if its any consolation, you're not the first and wont be the last.

You might be lucky. If you washed it all off fast enough, before any was absorbed, you might have got away with it, but unfortunately I've found out (the hard way of course) that grass is particularly sensitive to glyphosate.

You can't retire from gardening GG:nonofinger: but the 'naughty step' is a good idea,it'll give you a chance to think about what you have done:psnp:...;)

No worries, you've done the right thing by 'rinsing' it off and over the next few days we're forecast some rain I believe so that will help dilute it a bit more...I feel your pain but you'll soon have it back to rights:thumbsup:

It's not very effective unless it has time to soak in before rain, so you never know.

If it does die back then pretend you meant to do it so you could plant a crop of field peas to increase the nitrogen before re seeding

              Oops!

We all make silly mistakes, and as 'our mandi says, not only in gardening.

Chin up, wait, it's not the end of the world. Grab a prosecco and forget about it for now.

Oh crap. My sympathies but you can have a new lawn by the end of the year. Chin up.

You may get away with it by watering straight away. It's only human to make the odd mistake GG, your's is no big deal, nothing that a handful of grass seed won't sort out worst case.

I sprayed off the nettles nearly 2 weeks ago, they still look like they'll need another spray, and that was in dry weather.

Nettles take a while. Last time I tackled nettles with RoundUp it took about 2 weeks for them to even start to look poorly. They got two more doses over about 6 weeks before they went.

That's the battle I have every year, I try to kill them off, then Sis mows them down before it's gone thru the plant:doh:

Really sorry to hear this, GG. It must be a horrible feeling if you don't even want to go out into your garden, but hopefully you will start to feel better as you come to terms with the potential damage. And as others have said, maybe it won't be as bad as you fear.

                              Easily done unfortunately.
Don't be hard on yourself. One of those things.

A friend of mine once reached for the bug spray to to rid his prize roses of greenfly.
                              Except it was weed killer.
The bushes didn't die. But foliage was distorted for a season or so.

Not a biggie in the whole scheme of things, but I can't stop thinking about it - grrrrr. I don't normally do retail therapy, but off to bookshops!
                                Will keep you posted.
