What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

Moved some plants around that had become too big for the space they're in.

Planted out some roses that may, or may not, be dead. Unfortunately they'd been stuck at my dad's for a few weeks and he's been too ill to do anything with them so they've been sat (bare root) in their delivery box. Gave them a good soak, trimmed off definite dead bits and planted them with a good supply of rose feed. Time will tell.

Started planting a load of summer bulbs, only a 100 more to go.

 

Coated my Hen coops with engine oil...didnt i just look lovely by teatime

 

Painting fences and dug holes ready for my palms.
No rain on the forecast guess what it's doing now??.
Watered stuff in the GH, really need to start potting some stuff on especially echiums and cannas

 

Cut up a compost bag to line a wall half basket. Sponged / Stapled it together, put a reservoir with gel and slow release fertiliser in the baset, added nice compost with grit, vermiculite and more slow release and a sprinkling of gel.
Then put in ivy leafed geraniums and lobelia and a scarlet diascia at the back. Squeezed it into the mini GH to settle and wait til this forecast cold spell isn't around anymore.

You need wider staging My "central aisle" is just wide enough for me to get down to tend to plants and water ... and all space under staging is full with things which, although not ideal, will tolerate some shade

 

Potted up 6 x Salvia Patens Oxford Blue and 6 x Salvia Patens Cambridge Blue.
Cut hard back, our next door neighbour's rambling pink rose. It had got very overgrown and a gale would bring it down AND the trellis it was originally attached to. 3 or 4 sacks of the prunings , all cut up into small lengths with secateurs means you don't need so many sacks. And I find it quite therapeutic , chopping it all up.
Our green recycling site is only 10 minutes from where we live so it will get there today before 5 pm.
And the bonus? More light in our mini GH on the other side ...

Earthed up my Spuds as they're may be a cold cooler weather coming Thursday/Friday

 

Cut the lawns front, side and back. Set seed for 10 more Hilton Dwarf French Bean and 4 Marketmore cucumber (these are for succession planting) Potted on 3 Mohawk sweet yellow peppers and some Basel that had been under fleece in the greenhouse.

That's a job for morning for me Jiffy.

 

Hi FC,yes i used gloves,it was used engine oil from our village garage,ive read its the only thing that suffocates red mite so i figured i would use that instead of fence paint as i was painting the the coops anyway...plus it was free
