Solved Shade loving ground cover plant - Yellow Archangel (Lamiastrum galeobdolon ssp argentum)

    Any ideas folks? Found this at work about 4 weeks ago. It's growing in woodland near paths and dies back over winter. Each year it comes back and grows into big clumps:

        You have to be strong-minded in controlling it as it has a tendency to gallop. Makes excellent ground cover, even swallows up dandelions. :)

          ... and thanks for that too, going by it's size & position in the wood I see you are right, it's made some rapid growth in the last month. I was thinking of trying some in my little wooded area of the garden but I've decided against now I realise it would take over.

            Another name for it is Archangel.. It is great plant, but will spread so keep it in check John as it spreads very quickly.. I have some but keep it confined to one area... :thumbsup:

              The nice thing is that it will even grow under Yew trees. Mine is very happy there. :)

                  Thanks keith, good idea. Is it a strong grower, i.e. likely to take over? I've got snowdrops and bluebells in the area I'm thinking of and don't want to completely smother them out.

                  Yellow dead-nettle looks lovely and fresh in spring, especially if it clumps up. I don't mind its spreading habit, it bounces around like a buttercup but much, much easier to pull out or chop off.
