    Evening all.

Earlier we had semi-home-made Chinese night for tea. It was semi-home-made in the sense that I cooked most of it from scratch, but did buy a pack of mixed starters, which included sweetcorn fritters.

The sweetcorn fritters were delicious, massively enhanced by some unidentified very fragrant floral flavour.

Whenever I eat something new and enjoy it, I let my taste buds do a thorough analysis so that I can rob the idea and use it in my own cooking. I'm usually quite good at it, able to pick out specific herbs and spices, oils, and cooking methods, but this one has me well and truly foxed.

Any ideas what it could have been?

The obvious answer is, I think, cardamom, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it.

Could you look at the ingredients list on the packet? :dunno:

    Coriander, perhaps?

If you can track the maker down on the 'net, they may respond to a friendly enquiry?

They were from Asda, but other than that I didn't take much notice. I thought they'd be average at best so didn't bother reading the ingredients or anything, plus I suspect if I had, it would have said something like "flavourings (E123, E456)".
