I don't think we'll see a frost in West Cheshire this week due to the cloud cover that's slipping over the top of us for the next few days.....and the more we get into the year the less chance there will be of us getting frost, until the dark days return again.:hate-shocked::snork:

After another frantic bout of spud covering at dusk last night, I looked out of the window at around 5am this morning to see frost covering the grass.

My weather station recorded an overnight low of -0.3 deg C air temperature, so the ground temperature would have been considerably lower.

Thankfully, apart from a slight blackening to the tips of one or two leaves, the potatoes survived unscathed. Having used every type of receptacle I could find to cover them with (see my earlier post), the only ones to sustain some slight damage were those under the old tin bath and those where I'd used small plastic pots with large drainage holes.
(Note to self: old tin baths are made of metal, which does not have very good insulating properties).

Iurned out to be 3C minimum here last night despite a clear sky.
Slight ground frost, but no damage done.

We are currently 22c after a 26c day ... better than yesterday at 30c ... 12 degrees above normal for this time of year!

We always came here end April/beginning May because of my birthday/our anniversary (66/46 this year) since 1988 and never knew what to expect but mostly cool/rainy. It has changed in the years since we have lived here (since 2001) and we have had much milder winters but really not much hotter summers .... I may recant on this one ... :heehee:

The good thing is we have a dry heat here which is good for me because I could not cope with a humid one like in Alabama nor the UK ... so ... I'm doing okay ...
                :yay:

This is what the frost on Saturday morning did to the Blackberry tips and young leaves on Ash trees at my plot, and that's why I don't plant anything tender out until 1st June.
