    Wise, a stunning tomato!

We eat so few purple and blue foods that those will bring the table to life - Do show a personal picture when ripe. I grow purple carrots and purple potatoes and they are so pretty - imagine all those in a meal, purple cabbage coleslaw too, beetroot, - then a blueberry pie - lets see... and then red and blue food coloring into the whipping cream.............. A very deep red wine, then something with creme de cassis to finish.

then 14 pints of larger, wow

Hi Jenny of course I will ,consider it done my friend:smile:

Just a little bit of Info;)

Wow! No trick photography whatsoever is needed with this astonishing, rare and new, seemingly blight and disease-free, blackest ever tomato with ornamental darker leaves and stems, which was developed by Oregon State University. Amaze your friends with heavy-cropping trusses of fruity-flavoured, unbelievably jet-black, large-plum-sized fruits, which finally ripen late in summer to a deepest purple, and when sliced resemble plums with their deep red flesh. It is the first tomato variety in the world that has anthocyanins actually in its fruit, and importantly, no genetic engineering techniques were used to develop this plant. Anthocyanins, (which are antioxidants, and the same black pigment as in blueberries), are believed to help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancer, and some evidence even suggests they protect our brain as we age. You can be one of the first to try this black tomato with its clean, clear flavour, a satisfying, dense texture, and a show-stopping appearance, along with the potential health benefits.

Put some red food colouring in the cream of course!

I'm growing these too but as I don't like cream it's not a problem for me.

My biggest tomato is golf ball sized and the bed of determinate tomatoes I planted last week for canning have exploded in size and the tallest are one foot.

I am always looking for egg recipes but this year I will be after tomato recipes if some blight does not happen (which has a couple times lately - this year I have them scattered)

Has anyone grown supermarket varieties Piccolo, Piccolini, Santini, Tomalini or Red Choice?

                            (Pete has grown Santini)

Googling I turned up this article from the Independent:

"Marks & Spencer is finding that our taste in tomatoes is getting "sweeter". We tend to use the larger varieties for cooking, and the smaller ones with a more intense flavour in salads. Its biggest seller is a small plum tomato called "Santini", which has a delicate thin skin and lovely just-picked aroma, while its "Piccolini", a large on-the-vine cherry tomato is deliciously sharp and a little firmer. But it is the "Tomalini", a fabulously juicy and fragrant midi plum, that caught my attention, a variety the store says is "walking off the shelves", unsurprisingly. I also loved Waitrose's "Piccolo" Sicilian cherry vine tomatoes that come in a pleasing array of miniature sizes and look as though you grew them yourself, and its "Red Choice", which puts my faith back in the potential for a good "classic" tomato, perfect for that weekend brunch with bacon and eggs."
                            http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...arieties-of-tomatoes-on-the-vine-2257683.html
and found that several people have grown Santini (maybe the others too) and raved about them

Maybe they are just well-known-varieties marketed under a different name (like Jersey Royals / International Kidney), but I didn't manage to find any info, nor seed companies that sell those varieties, but I did find people who had grown saved-seed from M&S etc. who raved about the flavour of what they grew.
