However i have planted some french beans and they have grown. I know how difficult they can be to grow but last year they grew so i do not know what is happening please help. When you say you have planted them, do you mean that you have sown the seeds? If so, then they need a minimum temperature to germinate and may not have done so because of that.

If you still have tomato, chilli and pepper seeds left then space them out, about 2" apart on damp kitchen paper, lay the damp paper on a plastic tray and cover with a clear plastic bag. Keep the tray in a light, warm place (a lot of people keep it in the kitchen) and the seeds should start to germinate within a week. Keep the paper damp.

Let them grow to a couple of inches high and then, carefully, cut the kitchen paper around the seedling (still leaving the seedling on the paper) and place the paper with the seedling on a pot full of compost. The seedling will root through the paper and grow OK. Don't touch the stem of the seedling and if you have to hold it then hold it by the two leaves that have formed.

i might try that then thanks shiney. However due to the heat we have had for 2 of the three weeks i fear they have died. I have watered them every day and in the greenhouse it is averaging a temp of the air is 30 degrees c during the day and 10 degrees c at night.

That sounds a bit extreme, have you got a windowsill out of direct sunlight that would maintain a steady 20 deg C (give or take a couple of degrees)?

I have some tomato seed you can have but we need to know where you intend to plant them. You say you have a greenhouse - is it a plastic blow-away type or a glass framed variety? Manx Marvel do well outdoors and I've got plenty of those, plus the good old favourite Gardener's Delight will do well in a greenhouse. Just need to send me a SAE.

Ive got lots of chilli seeds - just let me know how hot you like them & I will pop some in the post ; its probably still a bit cold for germination outside still so you may find that the ones you have planted appear now its warmed up a bit at night.

i have a blowaway type greenhouse which lasted in the winter storm and nothing happened. I cook with a lot of chillis so i am not really bothered about how hot. As long as they are no hotter than a scotch bonnet. Pm and i will send you my address :D

Cool - I will sort some suitable seed out & pop it in the post at the weekend ; for cooking I like Lemon Drop (aji limon), Kashmiri & the long red cayenne, all of which are pretty easy to get going - unlike some of the super hots, which seem to take forever!
