Yep Johnny Cash grew up listening to him, my dad used to have loads of his vinyls. As kids, we all loved Flosom prison, where he interacts with the cons!
    Fantastic catalogue of work!
That last album with him singing I'm my life and hurt ..... Too hard to listen too!
Roy Orbison didn't get into until much later via Travelling Wilburys!
Sorry about the stones -great band but rubbish in your kidneys!

Just reading this thread through and I feel ancient, I remember the Mersey era, loved the Animals, Kinks, I remember trawling all the local venues and seeing them all live, even the Beatles.

Loved loads of the 60s bands Herman's hermits , Monkeys, the Byrds, Canned heat, Hendrix, Stones....... You could go on forever It was a "fab" time for great music! Lucky you to have seen them in their prime!
Seen Dylan saw him in the 80s day concert at Wembley , Santana was on the bill and UB 40 if I recall correctly. By the time Bob came on we couldn't see the stage from where we were in the stands cos the little cloud the folk on the pitch had generated with their herbal cigarettes hung right in the way lol!

I think the 60's, right through to the 80's was a superb time for music. Not keen on modern music, although some of its ok. You should watch Vintage TV. It's great.
Herbal tea is supposed to be very good for you. Never heard of herbal cigarettes, but then I have never smoked. They sound like a healthy alternative to normal ones though.

Some of the music mentioned was fine, The Jam, Stranglers etc... but I was /am into the heavier side, bands in the 80's like Saxon, Iron Maiden, Motorhead.....

I remember you could buy herbal ciggies years ago, but I don't think they are the same ones that @Adendoll was thinking of. :heehee:

TBH I was pregnant at the concert and a bit mithered by the herbal cigs and the effects on the baby!
A lovely man lent me some binoculars so I could get out of the way of the cloud and see the stage from another vantage point - yet again a kind stranger, seems to be a theme of the site - we all keep bumping into them!

I don't think they sell them now. I just asked in my local shop, and she just smiled at me and said 'who is next?'

I remember them being sold in the local health shop (the Holland and Barrett style place) - I gave them a shot once when I decided I'd better be a bit kinder to myself, but they were truly awful things

I bought some herbal cigarettes years ago when I was trying to quit smoking one time. The packet said they were made of dried sage among other things. It was like smoking a bonfire. I ended up giving most of them away. I felt a bit guilty as they were gratefully received by someone who didn't bother to read the box, who thought I'd just kindly saved him a few quid on baccy. He reported back to me later that it was like smoking a bonfire, but what's worse, he said he felt the need for another straight after, as he didn't feel that his craving had been satisfied. It was only at this point that I drew his attention to the fact that they contained no baccy, and were in fact mostly sage and possibly dried horse poo.

I once knew a farmer who used to save on his baccy bill by mixing up a 50/50 mix of baccy and dried horse poo.
