Ditto, I have lost one Telepathy F1, but all of the Marketmore have come through and are thriving.

Ditto again, I hardly ever have a problem with them. I plant the seed in large pots threequarters full of compost and when the plant has four leaves I fill it to the top. It stays in this pot until it goes into its growing position.

weve tried 2 more - one in greenhouse one in propagator and we`ll see - its telegraph were growing (or killing ) if it doesn't happen we`ll go down the garden centre and get a couple of plants - that said we couldn't get peppers to grow so we put 10 seeds in the propagator last week couldn't see anything so we bought 2 plants from Morrisons on Monday - and sods law there are 7 peppers in the propagator this morning

I think its over watering and using multi purpose compost it just holds too much water around the roots

While agreeing with overwatering I can't agree with the "using multi purpose compost" statement because cucumber is the one seed that I always plant in it.
As I stated earlier, I sow mine in large pots threequarters full of multipurpose and then fill it to the top when the plant has four leaves, I then leave it in this pot until I put it in it's final growing position.
Just goes to show though what a fascinating subject gardening is, we often have our own way to do things that work for us but don't necessarily work for someone else, we also come a cropper with things and are only too glad for the advice of our peers.

          @lykewakewalker

          Hi
You are probably good at not over watering , also I only water in the morning I do the same with basil, begonias, fuchsia and most seedlings I grow, only if desperate would I water when I get home after work 4.00pm+.

Always John innes no1 with added perlite or sand never lost any Cucumbers since I changed from multi - purpose, and when going into final growing position plant on a mound which helps in not "rotting off" while they are getting established

Also the tv personality:cool: has agreed with me, that's good enough for me

How would you like to spend the night with a soggy bottom :snork::nonofinger::catapult:

@fat controller I got a special rate from the company that save all their surplus pallets for me (they get pallets of stuff delivered and send parcels tied with string out) some time ago and I've still got over 1250m left.

I wonder if we are talking different types of Cucumbers amongst ourselves - and therefore possibly comparing Apples and Oranges, so to speak?

Is everyone growing F1 Female-only Greenhouse Cucumbers (which I think are prone to snuffing it)? or perhaps Outdoor Ridge-type Cucumbers (which I think are much less fickle)

My past wilting problems have been with F1 indoor..lost 2 Carmen F1's last year..always fine being potted on but then planting into final position one usually cops it,even though they go into the same potting mix (MP/JI2)

Interesting debate, though I've never had any problems with cucumbers from seed (usually grown the popular burpless varieties and the minis) - probably luck more than skill though!

This year I though I'd try Iznik from seed which germinated very quickly then sat for a couple of weeks and now seem to be on the grow again.

Think they are more suited to indoors so trying in big pots in my unheated garden room and for experiment a couple outdoors on ladders much later on (if they survive).

Where is everyone elses cucumbers at the mo and how far ahead are they? Mine have a couple of true leaves but that is it, and are in the garden room, thankfully healthy so far.
