    I attempted to upgrade my laptop to windows 7, everything seemed fine but could not connect to the internet, it says I have no lan card ?. Bought a new laptop anyway, but considering going to shop to see if lan card can be replaced any ideas if 1, worth it, 2, is it possible, 3, how much should it cost.
    I could use it then for some things.

    Sounds like a driver issue @pamsdish - do you know how to get into the device manager through the control panel?

      If you go into the device manager, look down the list, expanding by clicking on the wee plus sign to the left of each item you want to explore and look for any conflicts or problems - usually shown as a question mark or a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

      Then its a case of updating the drivers, or reinstalling the conflicting devices

      I would just disable it if you're wireless. That's what I do.

      @pamsdish

      Keep in mind that on laptops, the LAN card is part of the motherboard and you can't just get a new one like on a desktop PC.
      Your best bet is to try and get it going as per the way @fat controller suggested.

      However if you can't get it going, then there is a plan B which involves purchasing a USB to Ethernet LAN adapter (not too expensive) then simply load the supplied drivers then connect it to a USB port on your laptop and the Ethernet cable to the adapter, problem solved.

      There are many manufacturers that make them, just make sure you get one that is compatible with Win 7 and that it supports either 32 or 64 bit as per your version.

      You might need to do a search on a net connected PC for the right driver, save it to a memory stick or a disc, and install from there
