Just as much as ever really though some of the commercial stuff has gone over to satellite broadcasting and Reuters teletype has more or less vanished. Howver I'm not interested in the commercial stuff as I stick to the amateur bands and there's more activity than ever there. Part of the reason for increased activity is that until a few years ago in order to obtain a licence you had to pass a morse test as well as passing two theory papers. The morse test requirement has been abondoned and it's now fairly easy to get on the air. Once upon a time Russian stations were fairly rare as the USSR only gave licenses to 'clubs' and the odd favoured citizen, now there's stacks of Russian and associated states stations on the air (flippin pest at times!).
This evening I had contacts with Paraguay, St Kitts & Nevis, Austria, Cuba and Italy as well as a pal ofmine on a ship sailing from Antarctica to Canada.
Reception improved vastly after Mrs W switched off our wretched plasma TV !!!

I always wanted to get something to listen to the ATC's etc, but never got round to it. Best of it is, where I am now should in theory be ideal, being so close to Heathrow - time would be the problem nowadays
