Is anyone else having this problem?

I bought 3 climbers last year and had the same problem. My dad however (lives a couple of streets away) isn't suffering with them.

I am spraying them with soapy water but they just aren't budging and the leaves on the roses are curling and some of the leaves are turning black / brown.

I am a newby gardener and not sure what to do.

any advice on how to get rid of the pesky mites?

You can just rub them off with your fingers (wear gloves if you're squeamish), or just jet wash them off with the hose.

Alternatively, you can use something like Rose Clear but I try and avoid that as it can affect Blue Tits and Ladybirds which eat Aphids.

I foliar feed my roses with liquid feed and to make the feed 'stick' better I add a few drops of washing up liquid. This acts as a surfactant and makes the water and feed work better. The detergent also dispatches the aphids! Win win!

I'm having the same problem with my roses.

I have 9 ground cover roses that are exactly the same type in a row in my front garden and only 3/4 of them are covered in green fly yet the ones that are covered in green fly are not next to each other, they are spread out along the row.

I have no idea why only some are covered and others have none on them. Its very confusing!

the birds ie Blue tits etc may have eaten the dormant eggs over the winter I never get greenfly as the balance of the garden has sorted it self out and I put up bird feeders over winter which helps bring in the birds , but 8 years ago all the roses had green fly and black fly as it was a new garden from just a lawn nothing else. Can take a while to settle down.

          Ah ok thats really interesting

i cant put up bird feeders as i have 3 cats and they like to hunt. Plus the whole neighbour hood is full of cats if you look out of any window you generally see 4 minimum.

I have a number of roses in my garden and I always have trouble with aphids (green, white, black and even red ones now). I have tried rubbing them off but it is hard without damaging the flower buds. I have tried to find Ladybugs but they seem to be so rare at the moment, so I am often left with no option but to use the dreaded Rose Clear.
