@longk I can rescue you from that situation :blue thumb: :)

Being my usual pedantic and picky self it's easy to pull her email to pieces. :heehee:

A reasonable sounding email but I dislike any use of 'The Law of Unintended Consequences' in these sort of circumstances. The local authority already knew of possible outcomes and should have foreseen the situation. Letting it get to this stage can only be their fault as, having seen the pictures, it wasn't a sudden escalation from minimal to overkill. Plants, shrubs, trees etc. take time to grow.

Also, foreknowledge (Lynn admits they knew about it for years) should have shown that this problem was coming. Therefore it wasn't what the homeowner did that created the unintended consequence, and the possible problem to other members of the public was known. So it wasn't 'unintended consequence' in the true sense of the 'Law'. Unfortunately for the council, what was 'unintended consequence' was the media furore. Their fault, totally!

It's a well known fact that having foreknowledge of the unintended consequence changes the outcome (or should do). Bertrand Russell would be turning in his grave!

Is it me, or did that letter not actually say anything? Complete verbiage.

It puts across some of the other side of the story (the side which doesn't make good copy for the Daily Wail), but at the same time makes no commitments or statement of intent.

The problem is that it shows the Council's culpability. They knew about it for a long time and did nothing until it was too late. Typical of councils.

If you had a business and left things like that until it was too late, you go bust!
