I think the tomatoes I have left are marmande (big, irregular shaped fruits) and millefleur (small, yellow, sweet wee bombs by the hundred on each plant) from memory. I don't think I have much left I'm afraid - I've been sowing since mid-Feb

Are you already growing some Courgettes then? If so I would recommend not growing any more / too many, as they are very prolific. Similarly with Squash, if you have some on the go, as they take up a huge amount of space.

Yes, I normally stop at around 50 plants, any more and it gets a bit out of hand.

I've also got another 12 earlier sown mini bush courgettes (about 300mm high) in a polytunnel

Not really suitable advice for a newbie though? 4 plants Courgettes ought to be ample for anyone just starting out (and I expect that many people here cope just fine with fewer than that, we grow 6 plants and I think that is excessive), unless they have some particular reason for wanting to grow a huge quantity. Bit different if you have grown them before and know a) how much they produce and b) have a need to "process" a large crop.

One for the slugs, one for the cutworms (eating through the stem just below the ground), one for the stem to split, one for the crow (they sometimes pull them up) and one to grow, plus spares that if not required as donations to local charity plant sale. And that doesn't include losses from plants shredded by hailstorms when hardening off, wind damage and red ants making nests amongst their roots. Only sowing one pot of each variety of squash can lead to a zero crop that year if anything goes wrong with it.

Well FWIW I've never lost one, after it has been planted out. I probably have at the seedling stage, in pot, prior to that (although I don't remember it happening :) )

I generally do 6 courgette plants, but am yet to have more than a handful of fruits in a season - they seem to go mouldy on the fruits themselves or the plants get galloping powdery mildew. I am trying a different variety this year, and have ten plants so fingers crossed...

Unfortunatly due the unexpected heatwave we are having the seedlings died due to how hot the greenhouse was. If any of you have any seeds left i would be gratedful if i could have some :D

Best not to let the Courgette / Zucchini varieties produce "marrows" ... as they will stop producing new fruit, and they don't taste as good as varieties bred specifically to produce marrows IMO.

I grow whichever is on offer in the garden centre in the Autumn (when they have a 50p-a-packet sale). Normally that is Green Bush, this year it is Defender. That packet had 20 seeds, I've sown 10 to get 6 plants and have 10 seeds left for next year. So 25p a season.

Premier Seeds sell them for 99p, +45p postage:
              http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Premier-Seeds-Direct/Courgette-Zucchni-/_i.html?_fsub=433323018

No additional postage if you buy more items, and postage free for 6+ items#

You'll probably get them in Aldi/Lidl or Wilkos for 99p too
