Erysimum Bowles' Mauve in wrong place

I have planted this plant a couple of years ago, in what I have just found out is the completely the wrong place for it. It is by a north facing wall, often very shaded and very sheltered. Also as it is in a large container it often gets either very dry or very wet.

Problem is, I think no one has told the plant this, as it has just gone mad this year. The flower stalks are now over a meter high and the leaves are so green and lush.

Question is, what should I do with the plant after it has stop flowering, should I just leave it alone as it seems to be very happy, or should I prune it back?

 

Well if it was mine I certainly wouldn't move it, the plant likes it where it is and is obviously flourishing, you wasn't going to prune it yet was you?

I love mine....it's flowered non stop since I bought it last year. It's also in a pot and the bees love it too.

 

Hi Val, no I would have waited until the autumn to prune. Though I have read some people suggest pruning while it is still flowering

 

once it has finished flowering just cut the flower stalks right back to tidy up

this one is easy from cuttings, as after a few years do tend to get leggy and woody in the middle
