Lovely pictures Yvonne. He looks as if he's ready to leave the nest. :)

Thanks, yes Sheal, I think he/she hatched about 3 weeks ago so should be within a week. I haven't seen them for a week and when I entered the woods yesterday, I could hear the chick from the entrance! The nest is about 40 feet from the ground, I hope the landing is a soft one!

Does anyone know what this is? I thought it was a type of buzzard but I can't ID which one. It was the same size a buzzard and was flying low over marshes. Sorry about the quality

A bird watching forum thinks it's a female Marsh Harrier, which is brilliant news as there was a rumour going round that hunters with a Harris Hawk had killed them off. This was over 1/2 mile away.

                            Love the Woodie pics.:dbgrtmb:

definitely a Marsh Harrier Yvonne, they are increasing in number gradually, yours looks like a female due to the pale head.
There are three breeding pairs in Dorset now, ten years ago there were none.:blue thumb:

glad the youngster is out and about. If he's got any sense he'll pop back indoors overnight,
