I've been lugging around some really heavy pots. I have had to drag them because they are too heavy to lift and even too heavy for me to get onto the trolley without much faffing. My back is protesting and so are my shoulders/arms. I really must get fitt.

Yesterday we decimated a raised bed which was infested with years worth of bindweed. Must've gone through over a ton of soil picking out each piece of root. Unfortunately the brick wall which was the side of The bed was unsafe so we decided to replace it with some old wooden boards reclaimed from a bonfire pile! Quite nice to get something for free apart from a bit of work.
The bindweed which is trying to strangle my nearby hydrangea has been given the round up in a pot treatment, as digging this up wasn't feasible.

Weeded the rockery, that in the space of a week (we'd been on holiday) had suddenly sprouted so many weeds! Also cut back a grass (the nasty one that grows about 3' tall & can cut), thinned out the phlox in the main flowerbed, whilst the OH mowed/trimmed the lawn & trimmed a couple of stray wisteria (not the dying one) stems that were growing into the gutter (i won't go high up ladders...) Then tried to tire Reggie out with his ball & rope pull toy... Needless to say I'm more tired out than the pup...!

Thanks @Ellen - I am not all that bad really; I think I overdid it yesterday hacking away at the lavateras, a few trees and then the rhododendron. My back, elbows and wrists a killing me (and my back and joints don't take kindly to provocation), which when coupled with sunburn led to quite a sleepless night - not helped one iota by the eejits that came up our street shouting and bawling at around 3am :mute:

I've just pottered today, and even had the heating on for an hour earlier to warm me through; I'll be right as rain tomorrow. :blue thumb:

This morning planted out the last of the last of the Asters and Nemesia and a couple of trays of Antirrhinum.
On Saturday Morrison's were selling Campo Viejo Rioja at 3 for £10 so I invested in half a dozen bottles. This afternoon Mrs LWW and I enjoyed a bottle while we admired the fruits of our labours, and they looked better with every sip.

You know when you've done loads in the garden, but when you put it down in writing it doesn't sound like a lot? Well that's what I've done today :)

Lots of pottering picking out weeds, tidying stuff up, sweeping, potting up Fuchsias, potted an Acer Little Princess into a different pot.

I bought lots of Acers last year, including three Atropurpureum, two of which went in the border and one into a planter in 'Acer Corner' with the others. All the Atropurpureums have died, whilst the others are doing well. I can understand that the two I put in the border may have died because it's north facing and can get boggy (although the Rhodos/Camellias seem to like it), but the one in a pot was in a grouping of other Acers and they are all fine. Plants eh? Never understand 'em! :rolleyespink:

I did subequently find another Atropurpureum which I'd bought from Morrisons towards the end of summer and which had overwintered in its plastic pot - it was absolutely fine, so I planted that out front a few weeks ago - looks okay so far.

Got a few bits and pieces done today.

In the vegetable garden; planted out and netted brussels sprouts, sowed sprouting broccoli, winter cabbage 'Tundra' and spring cauliflower 'Medallion'. Also sowed some mixed spicy salad leaves.

Potted up some black peppermint I bought at Shiney's open day, also split up and replanted a couple of other large pots of mint which reside by the kitchen door, as they were getting a bit overcrowded.

In the greenhouse, planted out the sweet peppers and sowed basil 'Classic Italian' in amongst them. Decided to be ruthless and chucked out some strawberry plants which hadn't produced much in the way of fruit anyway and were looking rubbish.

Sat in the summerhouse and had a cuppa. :coffee:

Planted out the first batch of "bedding". Poppies mostly (given that its the 100 year anniversary :) )

That didn't take long (bulb planter is an exact-fit for 9cm pots, so pogo-stick lots of holes, drop some Chicken Pellets in, and then knock plant out of pop, and pop in the hole - rain over the next few days will wash enough soil in the finish the job :)

No, the thing that took the time was cataloguing them in my Walking Order Plant List APP :heehee:

Blimey! APP says that was 198 plants :)
