That's probably as clear as mud!

Inspired by my (hopefully objective) defence of nuclear power in another thread, this....

@clueless1 to continue on your theme, but in a different vein - this was written during the cold war and everyone was thinking about 'The Bomb'.

Another anti-war song that became a big hit in the 60's by Donovan was written by Buffy Saint-Marie. She introduces the song by giving her reason for writing it and the song starts about 1 minute 50 seconds into the video. It's been covered by many singers in the last 50 years.

This song was written by Ralph McTell in the late sixties but not put out as a single until the mid-seventies, when it became an instant hit.

It's been covered by hundreds of famous singers and Ralph got an Ivor Novello Award for it.

It's worth waiting through the 20 second advertisement

At the end of the song he's interviewed (years later) about the writing of it. He was originally going to call it the Streets of Paris.

              Another series of links.....
I hope you don't find them too depressing

On another thread this song came up. It became Bing Crosby's theme song

Bing actually co-wrote the lyrics to another song that became a fairly big hit for many singers and my favourite version of it is by Billie Holiday - it's from the Blues/Jazz era (not the most cheerful of songs, as Blues tended to be)

Many years later Bob Dylan wrote and performed a song that he based on the melody of both the above.

@robinbarker - try following these steps to share a video:

First, on the YouTube page of your video, click on the 'Share' tab (just under the video) and it will open and show a text box with a funny looking web address in it; make sure that text is all highlighted as it is in the picture below, then right click over it with your mouse and select 'Copy' (or with the address highlighted, press CTRL + C on your keyboard if you prefer).

                Share 1.png

Then, return to GC and start a new reply to the thread in the normal way; to embed the video into your post, select the Media button on the top row of the reply box (circled in red on the pic below) - if you hover your mouse pointer over it, a wee pop up will appear that says media (as arrowed below)

                Share 2.png
Clicking on the media button will open a pop up window that looks like this:

                Share 3.png
Click into the text box to the right of 'Enter media URL', right click and select 'Paste' (or you can use CTRL+V on your keyboard if you prefer), then click on the 'Embed' button.

That will insert a line of text into your post - - when you click on the 'Post Reply' button, your chosen video will be in the post: :)

I've got a thing about the musicals this evening after hearing of the loss of Maya Angelou RIP.. who starred in her younger days in Porgy and Bess..
