I suffer with severe back pain Val, I go into spasm if I dont catch it quick then it`s 24 hours of agony, the thing I have found helps most is a wheat bag, you can make your own with rice, in an emergency, use a sock fill it with rice, not firmly about 2/3 rds, tack across the top to stop spillage. Whack it in the microwave 3-4 mins, stand for 30 secs, give it a good shake and sit with it on the pain. If you feel it starting to cool, give it another shake, sometimes if really sore I have to keep putting it back into micro for most of day, and then take it to bed with me.

We have a prescription ketoprofen gel called Powergel. If you can get it then it does work. If not there is another one called Movelat gel. Not quite as good but it does work. Better than any of the over the counter ones.
I have had three lots of Steroid injections into my spine to counteract the pain. Sadly the last one did not work, indeed it seems to have made the pain worse. Waiting for an appointment to see the Pain specialist at our local Orthopaedic Hospital.
Definitely worth going to the doctors to find out what is causing the pain, disc or Sciatic nerve problems though.
At least you can take pain killers, I am allergic to any of the morphine based ones and Ibuprofen is a killer!

back pain !!! Chiropractor told me NOT to use any heat instead I use a gel pad kept in the freezer , cover with a thin towel and it does help amazing how much cold I can withstand , but I find a good walk helps as well to stretch it out , mine is muscular , but it does make me feel sick sometimes so I do understand , Ibuprofen , also if late as 8 or 9 pm:pathd: I take paracetamol but with out caffeine at least it doesn't keep me awake.

For my back, which cramps up badly if I stand too long, I've been using a combination of heat spray and freeze spray, it has helped along with exercises which I was told to do by a chiropractor.
But if something's worn out, its worn out, and you can only get relief short term.

          Regularly!

The doc still cannot work out (or give a name to) whatever it is that causes my pain, but at least I now get sleep thanks to amityrptiline; I was on my feet all day yesterday at work, so was off to a bad start this morning, and I have since pushed it far too far in the garden today, so I am currently a wee ball of pain (I find curling my knees up helps a wee bit).

I am pretty sure it must be some sort of arthritis as all my joints are affected, and if I am immobile for a wee while, they will pop and crack as I start to get them moving. I know for a fact that I have at least three prolapsed discs, which only add to the fun. :old:

I get hip pain too, and damp makes it worse. Best thing for mine is to keep moving during the day, don't let it stop you and it loosens up again. Staying in motion and not overdoing minimizes the stiffening up when I stop for the day. Sometimes paracetamol helps, sometimes not.

A decent bash on my vape with a nice medical strain in it really kills off my hip pains. Makes me a bit lazy though so i tend to just do the gardening first then dose if I need it later. Hate most of the prescription pills. Ibuprofen makes my joints scrape and feel worse, codeine is crappy, traumadol is awful, morphine is ridiculous, and paracetamol is laughable. Oh well, got a patch to dig.
