I had a real treat at work a couple of days ago when, from the canopy of a large oak tree, I heard the distinctive and wonderful soft 'purring' call of a turtle dove. Although I couldn't actually see it, hidden deep in the foliage as it was, the sound was unmistakably that of this now quite rare summer visitor.

These were quite common during my childhood, and on hearing it I was instantly transported back to those seemingly endless warm, sunny summer days of my youth, playing in the fields and woods, with the gentle 'purr' of the turtle dove in the background.

                Made my day.

While having an amble in the garden over the weekend with the camera and spotted these guys on a Hosta leaf, any ideas what they are?

Thanks, Jiffy. I haven't had time to check in my books to find out but I was curious as to what they are. They have started to disperse from the small fine web now. It seems a little incautious of the Parent Spider to lay eggs right out in open view on the Hosta leaf as my garden is full of birds and predatory insects. I think they were lucky to survive to that stage but I'm pretty sure not all of them will get to reach maturity or, if they do, I'll have more than one or two spiders in the garden:hate-shocked::heehee:

My thrush this morning about 8.15am, carrying something in his beak. He'll return later this afternoon - usually around 5 -6pm,
