Great stuff. I was at a marine auction and a large pile of aluminum framed windows was one item, about 1/3 broken and they likely went really cheap, $30-$100 or so. I did not buy them for some reason - I once got really burnt at an auction and that may have been my reticence (I was there to buy marine timbers but the lots were to large for me, all included pilings and I would have had to hire a truck to transport it) I would have built a greenhouse with those windows. I should have gotten them - all the smashed ones to dispose of was off putting too - I regret it. I also should have gotten the smallest lot of marine timbers too - just a heap of treated lumber, beams, and pilings all tangled - it went for $700. Then just chain sawed the stuff down to transportable size.)

One day I will run into a mass of windows to salvage and will do so - then can join you in this kind of thing.

I personally am having a go just to see if I can,it is a bit of a gimmick but for anyone that has limited space for growing and would like to have both crops it's certainly worth a go:)

I've planted mine in the greenhouse now. I got five Tomtato plants, some with multiple scions, all sorts from Sungold, Gardeners Delight, Black Cherry and Floridity:

Most of the grafts took very quickly, here's a close up of one:

And finally in the greenhouse in a 42L container with fresh Wickes MPC:

I also have a couple of potato tubers with Manx Marvel tomato scions, these are destined for outdoor planting in a weeks time.

I was glad to get them away from the growlights, the tomato scions were developing these strange bumps on the leaves. I've seen it before with tomatoes kept too long under artificial light:

Fascinating thread , just tagging it to keep an eye on the results. :dbgrtmb:
When I started reading it I hadn't a clue what you and John were talking about, just thought you both couldn't spell tomato !

Yes it was something like that and I seem to think it was @Trunky that started it - still can't find the thread though

Thanks for the memory jog Loli, I've found it now:

                    http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/anybody-going-to-try-this-next-year.54449/

As a few of our members are showing interest perhaps we can combine all the posts into one thread and give it a suitable name.

I wonder if a mod @fat controller @Zigs @Marley Farley can merge these two threads please? Maybe the "anybody going to try this next year" thread being the first with this "potato foliage" one grafted onto the end (sorry I can't stop myself!)

And if @Trunky doesn't mind could the merged new thread be renamed:

"DIY TomTato - Grafting Tomatoes onto Potatoes 2014"
