Ploughing on with a month's worth of weeding in the last few days. Planted out a few things in the new bed - coreopsis, agastache and malva. Quite surprised at how little some plants have progressed considering I've been away for a month and there's been lots of sun and rain. But totally amazed at the callas - best display I've ever had, huge, prolific and absolutely gorgeous.

Greenhouse still seems to be packed!

      2014-06-08 15.42.57.jpg

The petunia tree is beginning to look the part though :)

And the lawn improvement process continues - my £2 Wilkos sprinkler as recommended by our very own Clueless1 :)

This weekend: Disreverted our Spiraea. Removed from border many instances of a tall, sharp-edged grass which, my neighbour admitted, came over to my garden from hers. Hoed and weeded. Planted out a dozen African marigolds, 5 of which vanished overnight. Scoured moss off of three big slabs, and I don't know why. Pinched side shoots out of tomatoes. Fed courgettes and runner beans. Deadheaded pansies & cornflowers. Cleared out remaining forgetmenots. Weeded and top dressed some big containers. Tied in raspberries. Dug out one of two suckers that sprang up from a fuschia and are/were blocking our view of the Acer. Considered pressure-washing the patio and decided to procrastinate. Pricked out remaining coleus and gave them extra verbal encouragement because they've been sulking. Harvested basil and thyme, turfed out coriander gone to seed, munched some flat-leafed parsley. Admired my handiwork.

        Lovely, lovely weekend.

:wow: @MrsK , you have been busy :phew:

          Didn't do much yesterday :snooze:

Today, cut grass front and back (I call it grass, only because it is green :heehee: ) Cleaned the decking, staked Foxglove 'Alba' and.... well thats about it really, got too hot to do anymore and needed a cold one or two to help the cooling process.....

I will have to pop out and water the young plants in the shed (it has a clear plastic roof :blue thumb: ) later once Mr blazing Sun, drops away.

@MrsK , my Coleus too, have been having a sulk, but seem to have perked up a bit the last few days, must be liking the heat in my shed :yay: Same with the Amaranthus

ETA: Reminds me , must water the floor in shed tonight as it gets very dry in there if you know what I mean..... :dunno:

ETA2: Ran the 'new' (1st) pressure washer over the outside of the conservatory too.

Watered back border as Sambucus and others were wilting as it is so dry. Now it's raining!

Weeding all day again today. Mostly under the magnolia as it was nice and shady under there. Darted out occasionally to dead head the aquilegia, roses and clematis but not for long as it was scorching here. Did a bit of watering and fed the tomatoes but it's supposed to rain over night so anything I missed I'll do tomorrow morning if it doesn't rain.

Got stuck in and made the new border on the other side, and then planted them all up - took Mrs and I most of the afternoon and we've both got a dose of sunburn for our troubles (my back and shoulders are currently on fire!)

Now curved to match the one on the other side and banked back up away from the lawn

A nice easy Sunday, just pottered about in between lengthy bouts of sitting in the shade reading the Sunday paper.

Still got a few jobs done though. Having picked and shelled the last of the crop, pulled up the overwintered broad beans, which have now finished; sowed some more mixed lettuce and planted out the rest of the rudbeckia 'Rustic Dwarf'.

Made today a "sit and read my Gardening and Photographic magazines day" in the garden while it stayed warm and dry. But I'd put my chair on the lawn beside my Rose "Rheinburg" which has been, for the last two years, slowly overwhelmed by surrounding Phlox. You know what's it's like, you know the problem is there but you ignore it as you don't want do it then and there as there are other things to do........like reading your magazines!! But every time I looked up from the pages there was the Rose looking as though it was vanishing under the attack of the Phlox:cry3::gaah:
So in the end I put down my magazines and pulled myself out of the nice comfortable chair and stood looking at the Rheinburn. It's not a tall rose [18" at best] but produces medium sized lovely flowers:

I was in a quandary as to whether to cut the offending Phlox down or pull them up [taking into account that they're not far from flowering], and in the end decided to try my luck at pulling them up. To my surprise the Phlox were more shallow rooted than I expected and came out easily, root and all. So I ended up taking out several clumps of Phlox and putting them into buckets of water to wait until tomorrow evening when I can find time to plant them in the East border. Then, because I was out of the chair, I tied in some of the wandering Clematis on the Trellis Entrance, a clump of Veronica that was sprawling onto it's neighbours, a Peony that was doing the same thing, and then weaved some Honeysuckle stems into the side of the Arbour which were going in the wrong direction. Magazines and sitting down out of mind I checked in the Green House and ended up making a mixture of grit, sand and general purpose compost and moved a Succulent into a bigger pot. Having wandered back into the garden I checked on my "Nursery" of cuttings, seed sown plants, and those established plants that need to go into the borders but, because I was reading my magazines:heehee:, hadn't been planted. Going down to the Pond area I was:dunno::heehee: tapped on the shoulder by the Clematis Armandii that is growing through the Acer Brilliantissimum and was hanging down from a branch. A piece of string and my knife from my pocket solved the problem. After that it was a walk back to the House to make a mug of tea, grab a piece of cake and give up on reading those magazines.:dunno::heehee:

A tale of a true gardener , that is Armandii. A lively post to read this evening. I think we've all done it - meant to start on something and never got around to it - and, by the dimming of the day , completely forgotten what it was you had set out so determinedly to do in the morning!!

Like to add something that looked like work to the thread but I would be lying - just sat out and had a good chat with a friend. Then went for a walk in the Etherow country park, (riverside) it was lovely. Nearest to work was cutting salad for tea that OH was making, oh and moving some of the herb seedlings outside from the greenhouse!
