Got to be worth a shot. A lot of Dyson stuff is very similar, so we might just hit on something. To be fair to Dyson, they would probably be able to tell you what part you need, and sell you it at the same time - I have always found them to be very helpful.

My dyson was near death last year. I took it to the local repair shop to be fixed. Cost about £90 in service and parts and it works as good as new now. We were told that the new dysons are really rubbish now compaired to the older models so if you can't fix it yourself get someone else to do it rather than shelling out for a new one.

Ah ha.. My bro had one of those and he lost the suction too.. After a lot of faffing it was a cracked casing inside and worn seals and it was cheaper to buy a new one at that time in the end....

Hi I had a similar model (yellow unsure of model no) same problem -cracked casing, not cost effective for repair. I was fed up as I had not long since shelled out for new filters for it!

Yep - I reckon its either the lower motor bucket or the upper motor casing, both of which are about £40, and then the seals will need renewed. Probably be about £60 all in if you do it yourself, but if not, labour costs would likely push it over to being uneconomical, especially when you consider that a new one now comes with a 5-year warranty.

Dyson did seem to have a marked drop in quality for a while, but more recently (last two or three years) that has been resolved

I would certainly agree with that, but I have an animal ball which is a few years old now and an animal rechargeable and I am pleased with both of those... I have had 2 other Dysons as well one was very good the other dreadful, but here i am still with them..! :spinning:

It's certainly not something I'd feel confident in tackling myself. Worth being aware of regards potential cost & cost-effectiveness. Thanks everyone :)

I wouldn't even think of going down that road as special tools will be needed I am sure :help:

Surprisingly not with Dyson stuff - the odd torx screw creeps in occasionally, but more often than not they are just plain pozidrives
