I love your Early Red Cherries Lolimac :)

Had a few Strawberries today, but i've not got round to clearing the fruit garden yet, still a bit overgrown.

Planted out some leeks and put the rest in holding beds.

Took up some polythene sheeting to find a huge ants nest, they immediately declared war on all the slugs and snails under there, was like a Darlek invasion :yikes: They were all dead in about 5 minutes :hate-shocked:

2 Slow worms beat a hasty retreat and are now hiding under the Blackcurrant bush :phew:

Got some more winter brassicas planted out this morning. January King cabbage, Winterbor kale and Early White sprouting broccoli.

All netted, collared and watered in. By the time I'd finished they were looking a bit sorry for themselves in the hot sun, but I know they'll be fine in a few days. Brassicas always impress me with their amazing powers of recovery.

Strawberries on the wall are coming along - getting a few each day & no trouble with birds eating them (although I do seem to have some flying snails that make their way up there at night):

You can see where the plants in the middle are much better than the ones at the end (most of which have been replaced this year) 'cos I didnt have enough watering points & the end plants died off last year.

Your idea as worked out very well Nick. A revised watering system for next year will maximise your harvest. That's what it's all about - new ways and then modification.
I love your system here though - making good use of a wall area,
              Jenny

I think I am going to give up on strawberries after this year - - never seem to get enough at the same time to be useful in any way, and just seem to be more hassle than they are worth :dunno:

Interesting, thanks Zigs. I thought it was a Green Manure - just checked my big-bags-of-Moles-seeds :) but none of them are Mustard. Will the Green Manure mustard do, or is this a different branch of the Mustard family?

                My pleasure Kristen :)

It was the Green Manure one I used last time, tasted fine if a little hairy

Looks like Mr Snail had climbed up the polythene then onto the center bar,had his supper then abesailed down, but did come to grief in the salt on his way out...

So trying this now, plus I've moved the center bar:rolleyespink:
