Thanks for your views all. I decided to give it a go and can't get passed acceptance of username/mail address. It doesn't matter what I put in it won't accept it, great start!
I use virgin mail, but after an update on firefox this evening, firefox dont work anymore So I'm now using Chrome, its OK but a bit messy, anyway I tried to get onto u tube and it appears that google has decided I needed a new account, so its given me one with a e mail address I've never seen before. All my stuff is missing. Its also telling me some gobbledegoop about I need to set up a different account from my virgin one in order to transfer details over to google. It seems like virgin has got themselves mixed up with google, and now google are messing it all up. Its been working ok for years, I dont actually want a google account, but I dont think I have a choice. If anyone else has been through this process please tell me what is going on. I've read all their pages of gumpf and I'm none the wiser, really I want it in ENGLISH not some load of garbled computer speak.
Pete, you don't need Google Chrome to have email, I set mine up on ordinary Google. I'm not sure what you mean about the email address on the new account. When a new account is set up the email address should be of your choosing. You say all you stuff is missing, I'm wondering if somehow you've picked up something dodgy in the process.
No, Sheal its to do with Virgin, their mail has been done via google somehow, and you used to be able to sign into u tube with the virgin email address, but now its all changed and apparently you need a separate account. So they gave me one, which they can poke. Something is really wrong with my PC now, since the firefox update, its not able to connect, it just says "connecting"all the time, I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but it still wont work. I think its something to do with the ruddy Norton security that is on my lap top, but cant work out how to turn Norton off. So I'm having to use chrome, if that goes the same way I'm sunk.
I've just managed to sus out how to do a restore on this thing. Anyway, I've done it and afterwards Norton kept banging on about so security threat, I tended to ignore it. It then decided to say it had removed the security threat. Ok, so why didn't it just do that in the first place? These things are far to clever for me.
Somehow doubt that, pete It's just that when things like that happen it put's you under pressure and in a quandry............been there many times!!!
The thing that was getting me was that Norton seemed to need internet access, but at the same time it was blocking firefox from working. I had firefox as my default browser, so it was a bit off a stand off.
Yep, some software looks at other software and see's them as malware when they're not I have 4 security programs which I use every time I shut down the 'ole Steam Box and it took me some time to find programs that didn't conflict with others or see them as malware.
Having set up Gmail not so long ago I'm now thinking of abandoning it. Today I received a communication/advert from Google asking me if I wanted to sell an unusual item I own. Gmail has found this out from my personal emails, so it's obvious they are being read. Is this normal? I've not experienced this before and usually use an email account supplied by my Manx server with no problems in respect of the above. I'm not happy!
Well, I wouldn't be either, Sheal. Did they name the item??? They were in trouble for introducing a program that picked up words from communications, but not as far as I am aware from e-mails, so that they could link advertising to where they thought your interests were. The trouble is that such organisations use lawyers [I question the use of that title] to gobbledegook the joining contracts, which nobody reads, so that it is unintelligible. I've been using G-mail for a long time and had no problems from the start to know. Most of the marketing/advertising mail goes automatically into the spam bin anyway.
They didn't name the item exactly just the genre it's in but the item is so unusual there is no way they could have found out I own it other than through my gmail. Google actually stated that it had picked it up from my email! What worries me now is that all my emails are being read as I also linked my Manx email to it.
Go0gle are taking over the world. One reason I dont like them. I'm probably on their blacklist now, when they read this.
No, your e-mail isn't being "read" as such, Sheal, but they have a program, and so do other Browsers, that pick up key words and also cookies tracking where you go on the Net. The program can then interpret that to your marketing likes etc. It's the same program that the NSA piggy-backed to pick up key words etc for their security program with our own Security Organisation doing the same thing. So no doubt your e-mails have been diverted to NSA Servers and "read" over the last few years.
