Going to get a lavender, pull out some of the phlox & plant it where that was. I like the phlox but I want a lavender :)

Cutting back the geraniums, giving them a feed and hoping for a second flush of flowers...always reluctant to do that job, makes the garden look bare but they'll soon be back..sow some more Runner Beans and tying a few things back after yesterdays rain flattened them:doh:

Have you decided which Lavender? :)

I have bought small plants of 10 different ones in order to find out what colour they actually are, when they flower. If I had a Lavender nursery near me I could have gone at flowering time and seen it, but I want to start taking cuttings this year to have enough for year-after-next to replace my Lavender walk.

But even for one there is the English Lavender - very hardy (although good drainage would help insure that), or Spanish / French which will repeat flower, and puts on a good show.

Or Giant Hidcote for something a bit different (and with History :) )

        Some ideas here perhaps:

I've got 8 or 10 plants that I don't need, was going to bung them on the compost heap, do you want them?

Thanks for the link :) I cheated and went to the garden centre ;)
I've gone for two; one is a Papillon which smells gorgeous when the leaves are bruised!! The other is a Miss Katherine. The French has already attracted a butterfly and they're not in yet! (And Reggie!) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1403696869.854010.jpg

Going to have to have to give Mrs K another admonishing for not doing enough propping-up - that's not my department :)

Solved a bit of a mystery when I went out for my early wander round the garden first thing this morning.

After planting out my brassicas, I often find several of the 'cabbage collars' (used to protect against root fly) removed from the base of the plants and scattered around nearby.

I had my suspicions as to the cause, and this morning they were confirmed. A cheeky blackbird was hopping around inside the net, turning over the collars and looking for tasty morsels in the moist soil underneath.

Perfectly normal blackbird behaviour of course, we've all seen them turning over fallen leaves to discover what's underneath, and to a blackbird one of my cabbage collars is simply a leaf underneath a plant, on a nice moist patch of soil, waiting to be turned over.

By the way, the blackbird was fine. I use old football goal nets to cover my brassicas, these have quite a large mesh size, enough to allow smaller birds to pass in and out, but not pigeons.

Only got a few jobs done today, after a downpour this morning. Sowed a few more mixed lettuce and spring onions outside. In the greenhouse, sowed a couple more cucumbers, and some carrots in a large pot. Meanwhile, Mrs Trunky cut the grass and planted up a couple of large pots with some spare summer bedding plots I brought home from work.

Yesterday I did a load of weeding before the monsoon hit. No gardening for me today as I have a lot of driving to do. I've told the robins and blackbirds, that usually follow me around, that I won't be there.

Mrs Shiney may get some gardening done today but she's pretty busy as well.

Time to follow in @Lolimac footsteps, and chop the Geraniums, also need to do some tidying up after the storms. And I still have annuals to plant out. They say it will be dry today, so I should get it all done, and if it is dry enough the grass needs cutting.
