This is getting silly now; yet again, they are banging on about sugar! As usual, its been rapidly picked up by the British Brainwashing Channel here who have been prattling on all day about how we are all going to be doomed if we don't reduce our sugar intake to two teaspoonfuls or less a day.

In this country, we have many people that are homeless, others in barely habitable conditions, people running around with knives and guns, and even hospitals that fail to correctly diagnose and treat people.

Worry about too much sugar! Talk about putting the wallpaper up before the roof is on.....

This country really needs to get a grip, and fast.:gaah:

Sssssshhhhhhh!!!! Don't let the 'thou shalt not' brigade find out, or you are doomed on two counts in the one move - alcohol is the work of the devil, don't you know, and the combination of alcohol and sugar is the sole reason that this country is in the state its in!

 "Serene I stumble amidst the flowers......"

Seriously though, the medieval teeth I dig up at work have got no decay on them, only sugars they had were honey & fruit. Lot of wear on them though.

Fair point, but the way they are going on about sugar now you could be forgiven for thinking they are talking about crack cocaine! The 2 teaspoon limit includes carbs such a those in fruit and honey.

It is true, there are a lot of people who should reduce sugar intake, but all the while the products containing all the extra sugar are for sale people will consume.! So it is not very likely to happen... Some of us consume very little sugar, some don't/won't consume less..
So not sure how they think telling us to consume less will ever happen when it is all out there for the taking..!!

The attitude of the world in general today is.. "Whatever it is I want it and I want it now and no ones going to stop me"....!!!

Well that's me doomed then (again) and I haven't had sugar in tea or coffee since my first term as a student , when I got fed up of buying it for the whole house.
I am also doomed due to my caffeine intake, my alcohol consumption, my enjoyment of both butter and full fat milk and we'd better not mention the pork dripping, smoked bacon sarnies and the occasional fried slice.
I don't worry too much about these stories anymore as there will be an opposite one from the World Sugar Organisation or such like along in a month or so and I do need to keep the blood pressure down.

I agree with everything that's been said but obesity is now a major problem particularly in children. I also eat butter, I drink alcohol and I smoke but I don't consume much sugar so I must be OK!!! :)

A healthy balanced diet, I love a fried egg sarnie, in lard so the edges go crispy, with jalapeno sauce(the only thing the Americans got right), but only an occasional treat, or a quick supper if too tired to cook.
What is needed is some cookery shows, showing normal everyday cost effective, basic ingredients, not a sea bass or scollop in sight.

Well i've got a sweat tooth(sorry sweat teeth) but mine started when i was very young, when mum would make us a cup of tea or coffee it wouldn't be 2 spoonfulls in a cup it would be more like 3 spoonfulls as mum couldn't get any more sugar on the tea spoon and even some sugar would be flying through the air and going into the cup from the sugar bowl so more like 3 and half spoonfulls :thud::thud:

Here I am thinking that having quit booze and the recreationals all I need to do now to be perfect is to quit the fags. Turns out that I need to give up fruit juice and sugar in my tea and coffee now as well:wallbanging::wallbanging:

It's just a diversionary tactic to stop people realising what state the country has degenerated to.
Back to basics is touted but never done - get some home ec back in schools, teach respect to your fellow man, let people take responsibility for their own lives and maybe people will stop at 3 sugars in their tea!

When I see the blobbies wandering around the supermarkets I just tend to think,"well done, good to see you are doing your bit for the planet", the more people that die young, the better off the planet will be;).
We all have a choice, its not up to the government to dictate to us, although I think its more to do with sounding out public feeling on a sugar tax, in order to make a bit more money.

I still say all this 'obesity' business is down to life style in the majority of cases...yes I'll go back in time:old: (luddite) but when I was a nipper we ate three square meals a day, proper cooked dinners. When we came home from school a bag of crisps weren't shuvved in our hands,we'd play out until called in for tea, none of this sat in front of the telly, then if it was summer we'd play out some more until called in for supper...
I was only having this conversation with my Mother the other day actually,as kids we never kept still, always running around and only felt tired at bedtime...
Too much telly, too many computer games and too much junk food...Simples:dbgrtmb:
