There was a confession some years back, where someone as a child had decided to take the prize rams out for a walk, they made a bee line for the grain silo, which had been treated.

Not being able to drag them away, the kid took the leads off and left the gate to their pen open.

The farmer was a bit confused later when he saw the 2 rams walking unsteadily toward him, even more confused when one of them exploded. The other ram, on seeing his mate explode, promptly died of a heart attack.

Ahhh, I think this may be that "blow up" has two different meanings.

My daughter was late back from horse riding once last year as the 2 of them (that's 2 riders, not her and the horse!) had stopped to get a sheep back up plus call somebody who knew how to contact the farmer. She may only be a farmer's granddaughter, but she knew what to do.

Watch the scene in Far from the Madding Crowd where Farmer Gabriel Oak has to stab his sheep in the belly with a big hollow needle to deflate them! Or read it of course, sorry Mr Hardy.
