Will that make picking the Runners a bit tricky?

I've never done a Munty frame, but I have pondered that I would grow an early crop under them, to be cleared by the time that picking becomes a serious, and full time!, occupation.

Hmm you may have a point there but put the courgettes there before I thought of the frame. This is my finding out year so we will see if you are right Kristen..

Well I shall certainly find out later, but I think I will be able to reach just about, but time will tell. As I said a bit of a finding out year this year, but I am used to making the most of a small space so hopefully I will manage..

I've put a few bricks (between the catch crops) so I can step on them to reach inside the frame and pick beans.

Although ... I wonder if the Courgettes will benefit from the Nitrogen that the Beans (symbiotically) "fix"?

Hmm never thought of that Kristin.. They are actually in a small raised bed so a shame, darn it.. I did try moving it but it is way to heavy now so we shall see how they go this year..

Actually thinking about it I remember that the old chap along the lane used to put a couple of courgettes in his beans and he always had a good cropping season of very tasty courgettes.. Hmm something to think about next year now..

Is that everything through X shaped holes? You mentioned slits over on Loofah's garlic thread
That got me wondering about cutting some slits (and hemming them using my 100 year old Singer sewing machine), holding the edges apart for sowing seed in rows (I use an old triangular paint scraper to form short seed drills), and perhaps letting the edges back a bit when the plants are big enough? 12.5mm Hems would produce a 25mm wide slot. Small U (other way round) shaped pegs made from fencing straining wire would hold the edges in place, but perhaps are more essential out in the open than in a tunnel.

Presuming that the Beans are watered frequently that would favour the Courgettes too?

I've never thought to actually do it though :heehee:

This is "three sisters" territory and already as such proven, worth a google.

                Steve...:)
